Greyhound Country Inn – Fenny Bridges, East Devon

£34,000–£38,000 per year, depending on experience

Are you a talented, hands-on chef who loves proper country-pub food, quality ingredients and a busy service?

We’re looking for a Sous Chef to join our kitchen team at The Greyhound Country Inn, an independent, food-led country pub in the heart of East Devon.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to become an important part of a well-established pub and have a genuine influence on the food we serve.

What we’re about

The Greyhound is a busy independent country pub serving locals, families, tourists, walkers, cyclists and guests staying in our 10-bedroom country inn.

We have a strong reputation for good food and hospitality, a large garden with over 100 outside seats and a busy seasonal trade.

We’re looking for someone who understands that great pub food doesn’t need to be complicated — it needs to be cooked properly, served consistently and taste fantastic.

Our food is centred around quality, seasonal ingredients and generous, beautifully presented country-pub dishes.

The role

Working closely with our Head Chef and owners, you’ll be a hands-on Sous Chef, helping to run the kitchen and maintain high standards throughout service.

You’ll be involved in:

● Preparing and cooking high-quality pub food

● Supporting and leading the kitchen team

● Running busy services calmly and efficiently

● Maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards

● Helping with menu development and seasonal specials

● Managing food preparation and minimising waste

● Supporting ordering and stock control

● Training and encouraging junior members of the team

● Taking pride in every plate that leaves the kitchen

The person we’re looking for

We’re not necessarily looking for someone from a fine-dining background.

We’re looking for someone who gets country-pub food.

You should be:

● Passionate about cooking

● Reliable and organised

● Calm under pressure

● A strong team player

● A natural leader who leads by example

● Proud of the food you produce

● Comfortable working in a busy kitchen

● Interested in developing dishes and contributing ideas

● Someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality

Most importantly, we’re looking for the right person, not simply someone to fill a vacancy.
