Full job description

Job Summary

The Forklift Driver / Yard Operative is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, and loading finished concrete blocks throughout the plant and yard. The role also involves maintaining an organised yard, assisting with production and dispatch activities, ensuring products are stored correctly, and supporting the overall operational efficiency of the concrete block manufacturing facility while complying with all health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Safely operate forklifts to transport finished concrete blocks, pallets, and other products throughout the plant and yard.
Load and unload delivery vehicles accurately and efficiently.
Transport finished products from the production line to storage areas.
Stack, arrange, and secure concrete products in designated storage locations.
Prepare customer orders for collection and delivery.
Assist with loading customer vehicles and delivery trucks.
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised yard, ensuring access routes are kept clear at all times.
Carry out routine yard housekeeping, including sweeping, removing waste materials, and maintaining storage areas.
Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of forklifts and report any defects or maintenance requirements immediately.
Perform basic forklift cleaning and routine maintenance checks.
Assist with stock control, inventory counts, and stock rotation.
Inspect finished products for damage before storage or dispatch and report any quality concerns.
Assist production staff with general operational duties when required.
Help with end of day production cleaning
Follow all company policies, health and safety procedures, and environmental requirements.
Wear and maintain the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

Valid forklift operator certification or licence.
Previous experience operating forklifts in a manufacturing, construction, or concrete products environment is preferred.
Experience working in a busy industrial yard or warehouse is advantageous.
Basic understanding of stock handling and safe loading practices.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated.
Ability to identify and report equipment or product issues promptly.

Working Conditions

Manufacturing plant and outdoor yard environment.
Exposure to concrete dust, noise, vibration, and mobile plant equipment.
Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet production and customer demands.
Mandatory use of PPE, including safety boots, high-visibility clothing, hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection.

Performance Expectations

Operate forklifts safely and in accordance with company procedures.
Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe yard environment.
Ensure products are handled and stored without damage.
Support production and dispatch to meet daily operational targets.
Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues promptly.
Comply with all health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Assist Production team with general operation roles and help with end of day cleaning.

Remuneration

£13 per hour + Production Bonus.

Pay: From £13.00 per hour
