Job Title: Operational Support Labourer
Company: Salt Separation Services
Location: Rochdale, on-site

Our systems are used in sectors including naval, oil, cruise ships, and more. The Operational Support Labourer provides essential support across all operational areas of the business, ensuring workshops, yards, stores, vehicles and facilities are maintained in a safe, clean and efficient condition. The role involves general labouring duties, material handling, housekeeping, site security checks, vehicle loading and unloading and supporting production and maintenance activities throughout the site.

Key Responsibilities

Site Maintenance and Housekeeping

Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all workshop areas.
Empty waste bins and swarf bins in accordance with company procedures.
Remove scrap materials and dispose of waste appropriately.
Ensure work areas, stores, compounds and walkways remain clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Replace consumables such as towel rolls where required.
Carry out litter picking and general yard maintenance activities.
Support weed control, tidy and upkeep of external areas.

Materials Handling and Logistics

Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently.
Transport materials, equipment, tools and products between departments.
Support stores and warehouse operations.
Assist with deliveries, collections and stock movements.
Operate forklifts and other authorised equipment in accordance with training and company procedures.

Operational Support

Assist workshop teams with general labouring activities.
Support pickling and passivation operations when required.
Assist with workshop projects, assembly activities and facility improvements.
Provide practical support during maintenance, installation and repair activities.
Escort visitors and contractors around site when required.

Vehicle and Equipment Checks

Conduct routine vehicle inspections including:
Tyres
Oil levels
Coolant levels
Screen wash levels
Brake fluid levels
Windscreen wipers
Record inspection results and report defects promptly.

Environmental and Safety Responsibilities:
Comply with all company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Maintain safe working practices at all times.
Report hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses.
Assist in maintaining a clean and environmentally responsible workplace.
Support waste segregation and recycling initiatives.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

Ability to undertake manual handling and labouring activities.
Positive attitude and willingness to support multiple departments.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Awareness of health and safety requirements in an industrial environment.
Full UK Driving Licence
Forklift Truck (FLT) Licence.

Desirable

Experience working in manufacturing, engineering or industrial environments.
Basic maintenance or handyman skills.
Knowledge or willingness to learn waste management and environmental practices.
