Long-term progression opportunity
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic person to join our small team within the sports retail and distribution industry.
This would be an ideal opportunity for a school or college leaver looking for a long-term position rather than simply a short-term job. The role will initially focus on warehouse duties, packing orders, stock control and product listings on multiple websites, with the opportunity to develop into a Warehouse Manager position once the successful applicant has gained the necessary experience and is ready to take on more responsibility.
The role will include:
- Picking and packing customer and trade orders accurately
- Receiving, checking and organising incoming stock
- Regularly lifting and moving large boxes weighing up to 20kg
- Using computer-based systems to check and manage stock
- Keeping the warehouse clean, organised and working efficiently
- Identifying and resolving everyday problems independently
- Following established processes and written instructions
- Taking clear notes during training and referring back to them when needed
- Helping to add products and product information online, including data entry and writing product content
- Processing customer returns, refunds and exchanges accurately
- Assessing why an item has been returned and identifying the correct next step. This may include arranging a size or product exchange, issuing a full or partial refund, sending a payment link or organising a replacement
- Inspecting returned products and using careful judgement to establish whether an item has a genuine fault, has been damaged or has been used incorrectly by the customer
- Communicating the findings clearly and following the correct customer service and returns procedures
- Supporting the wider team during busy periods
- Helping the whole team to hand-unload approximately 250–400 boxes from incoming shipping containers and organise them neatly within the warehouse. Each box can weigh up to 20kg, and deliveries of this size take place approximately 8–10 times each year
Please note: Container unloading is a shared responsibility involving all members of the team. Applicants must be willing and physically capable of safely and repeatedly handling boxes weighing up to 20kg. This is an essential requirement of the role, rather than an occasional optional duty.
The person we are looking for will:
- Be reliable, punctual and ready to work
- Have a strong work ethic and take pride in doing a job properly
- Be physically capable of safely and repeatedly lifting and handling boxes weighing up to 20kg
- Be comfortable using computers and learning new systems
- Listen carefully and retain important information
- Take detailed, accurate and useful notes that they can understand and follow again at a later date
- Refer to their notes and the information available before asking the wider team for further help
- Be able to think independently, use their initiative and tackle everyday problems
- Communicate clearly and work well within a small team
- Be excited about developing the position and making the role their own
- Ideally have an interest or background in sport and feel enthusiastic about the products and industry
- Have a responsible approach to attendance and understand the importance of being dependable within a small team
- Have a practical level of maths and written English
- Be comfortable using appropriate digital and AI tools to support tasks such as calculations, written content and data entry, while checking the information produced is accurate
Previous warehouse experience is not essential, as full training will be provided. Attitude, reliability, initiative and a genuine willingness to learn are more important to us.
We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term member of the team and is keen to develop their skills and responsibilities. Our aim is to support the successful applicant in progressing to the point where they are capable of managing the warehouse confidently and independently in the future.
Hours of work
The warehouse is open from 9:30am until 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, and we are happy to offer this as a full-time position.
However, we are also open to discussing flexible working hours for the right person if they are looking for a role that fits around another job, sporting commitment or training opportunity.
For example, we already have a successful arrangement with a colleague who works from 10:00am until 2:00pm each day, allowing her to combine the role with her afternoon work as a kickboxing coach.
We are therefore happy to consider both full-time applicants and those looking for consistent part-time hours. Any working arrangement would need to be agreed in advance and work well for both the applicant and the needs of the warehouse.
