Full job description

The WJ Mills Cottages Trust is a long-established and respected South West charity seeking an enthusiastic, organised and compassionate Clerk to support the work of its Board of Trustees.

Established almost 100 years ago, the Trust is one of the largest almshouses in the South West, providing high-quality homes across a portfolio of more than 40 properties. Our founding mission of providing accommodation for those "in need" continues to guide everything we do, with a strong focus on delivering safe, comfortable and accessible housing for our residents.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, dedicated team and play a key role in the smooth running of the Trust. Working closely with the Head Clerk and Chair of Trustees, you will provide professional administrative support while building positive relationships with residents, contractors and other stakeholders.

About the Role

This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, working Monday to Friday mornings, although some flexibility will be required, with occasional additional hours to support the needs of the Trust.

The role is varied and rewarding, combining office administration with practical coordination and resident support. Typical responsibilities include:

Providing administrative and clerical support to the Head Clerk and Board of Trustees.
Preparing correspondence, maintaining records and minute taking.
Liaising with contractors, suppliers and external organisations.
Responding to enquiries from residents and helping to resolve day-to-day issues.
Assisting with the efficient management of the Trust's properties and administrative processes.

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, approachable and able to work independently while maintaining high professional standards.

You will have:

Excellent IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and other office systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and maintain attention to detail.
The ability to work independently, use initiative and remain calm under pressure.
A caring, empathetic and respectful approach when working with older, frail and vulnerable residents.
A professional, discreet and trustworthy manner when handling confidential information.
