Full job description

Protium Green Solutions (Trading name “Protium”) is a UK focused green hydrogen energy company, which supports businesses to reach net zero emissions across their heat, power, and mobility requirements. We are but fast-growing company, with some of the leading global voices in the emerging green hydrogen market on our team. We are deeply passionate about addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and our focus on green hydrogen is driven by the desire to see the UK transition rapidly towards renewable resources.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Production Engineer (EC&I Bias) to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our flagship 2.5MW PEM electrolyser (Nel M-Series) at Pioneer 2.

This hands-on role combines production planning, maintenance, electrical and control systems, SCADA, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Engineering and Commercial teams to maximise plant availability, optimise production and maintain the highest safety standards.

Key responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Plan hydrogen production in line with customer demand, maintenance activities and operational constraints.
Support planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding and preventative maintenance to maximise plant availability.
Maintain plant records, inspections and maintenance history within the CMMS (MaintMaster).
Analyse plant performance, including energy consumption, gas purity and process trends, to improve efficiency.
Coordinate hydrogen logistics and trailer movements with haulage partners.
Configure, maintain and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs, TIA Portal, AVEVA InTouch SCADA, Historian and industrial communications (OPC UA, Modbus TCP, Kepware).
Support the site's operational technology (OT) infrastructure, including industrial networking and remote connectivity.
Produce and maintain RAMS, permits to work, isolation certificates and operational procedures.
Support compliance with Electrical Safety Rules, DSEAR, ATEX (BS EN 60079) and Functional Safety (BS EN 61511).
Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions and promote a positive safety culture.
Ensure hydrogen product quality meets specification and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Assist with procurement of maintenance materials, spare parts and specialist services.
Support commissioning, inspections and maintenance activities across other Protium and client sites where required.
Work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Asset Management and Commercial teams to improve performance across the business.

Qualifications:

HNC, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls or Process Engineering.
Electrical qualification with experience working on industrial electrical systems (up to 11kV desirable).
Appointed Person/Senior Appointed Person status, or willingness to work towards.
ATEX and Functional Safety qualifications are advantageous.

Skills & Experience

Key requirements for this role:

Essential

Experience in EC&I within a process or industrial plant environment.
Practical knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems (Siemens TIA Portal and AVEVA preferred).
Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
Experience producing RAMS, permits and technical documentation.
Knowledge of industrial electrical safety practices.
Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.

Desirable

Hydrogen production, gas processing or high-pressure process plant experience.
Experience working on electrical systems up to 11kV.
Knowledge of DSEAR, ATEX, BS EN 61511 and ISO 14687.
Welsh language skills.
