Look no further! We have a fantastic opportunity for a Visiting Officer to join our team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Revenues, Benefits and Welfare Service.

About the Team

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council collects Council Tax and Business Rates from more than 90,000 households and 5,700 businesses, helping to fund vital local services. The Revenues, Benefits and Welfare Service is committed to delivering excellent customer service, supporting financially vulnerable residents and ensuring that public funds are administered fairly and effectively.

Our team plays a key role in maintaining accurate records, maximising income collection and helping residents access the support they are entitled to. We work closely with customers, colleagues and partner organisations to deliver positive outcomes across the Borough.

About the Role

As a Visiting Officer, you will undertake visits and inspections to residential and commercial properties across Stockton-on-Tees, gathering information to support Council Tax, Business Rates and related services.

You will investigate liability and entitlement, verify customer circumstances, identify property changes and new developments, and provide advice on payments, discounts, exemptions and support available.

The role involves meeting a wide range of customers, including vulnerable residents, helping them understand their accounts and assisting with forms where required. You will also help to identify potential fraud, support compliance activities, maintain accurate case records and contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.

This is a varied, mainly field-based role that combines customer service, investigation, problem-solving and independent working.

Has experience in investigation, compliance, technical administration or a similar customer-focused role.
Can communicate confidently and professionally, both face-to-face and in writing.
Is able to build rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds and handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
Can manage a busy caseload, prioritise effectively and work independently using their own initiative.
Demonstrates integrity, sound judgement and a commitment to excellent customer service.
