From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

As our new Marketing & Communications Executive, you'll play a key role within the Communications team, supporting the delivery of media relations, content creation, internal communications, and strategic campaigns that promote the West Midlands as a leading destination for investment, tourism, business and talent.
Working closely with the Corporate Communications Manager and wider communications team, you'll help generate positive media coverage, coordinate journalist visits, create engaging content, monitor emerging news opportunities, and support high-profile regional campaigns.

You'll Be Involved In:
- Promoting the West Midlands Through Strategic Communications.
- Supporting campaigns that raise the profile of the region across business, investment, tourism and talent audiences.
- Creating Compelling Content and Stories.
- Producing engaging communications materials that demonstrate the West Midlands' strengths, opportunities and successes.
- Building Relationships with Media and Stakeholders.
- Working with journalists, media partners and internal stakeholders to maximise positive coverage and storytelling opportunities.
- Supporting the Corporate Communications Manager in delivering communications strategies, campaigns and media activity.
- Monitoring regional, national and international media coverage and identifying opportunities to promote the West Midlands.
- Producing regular media monitoring and evaluation reports to measure communications performance and impact.
- Drafting high-quality press releases, articles, case studies, quotes, presentations and other communications materials.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of key messaging, briefing materials and regional fact sheets.
- Managing and contributing to the communications content calendar across multiple platforms and channels.
- Coordinating photography, multimedia content and visual assets to support campaigns and storytelling activity.
- Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors and media contacts.
- Organising media visits, journalist itineraries and familiarisation opportunities across the region.
- Managing day-to-day media enquiries and proactively identifying opportunities to secure positive coverage.
- Supporting editorial partnerships with regional, national and trade media outlets.
- Contributing to internal communications activity, including newsletters, presentations and employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintaining communication records, stakeholder information and media coverage within CRM systems.
- Supporting reporting, procurement, administration and project coordination activities across the Communications team.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to deliver high-quality communications outcomes.
- Representing WMGC professionally at stakeholder meetings, events and networking opportunities.
Essential:
- Experience working in a communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, media or digital communications role.
- Excellent written communication and editorial skills with the ability to create engaging, audience-focused content.
- Experience producing a range of communications materials, including press releases, articles, newsletters, presentations and digital content.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent proofreading and organisational skills.
- A good understanding of the media landscape and a genuine interest in news, current affairs and communications.
- The ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling and accessible content.
- Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
- Strong digital literacy and experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint.
- Experience using CRM systems and communications platforms.
- A proactive, enthusiastic and collaborative approach to work.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Desirable:
- A degree or professional qualification in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related discipline.
- Experience of media monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Experience coordinating media activity, journalist visits or stakeholder events.
- Knowledge of place marketing, inward investment, tourism, economic development or regeneration sectors.
- Familiarity with media monitoring platforms, journalist databases or CRM systems such as Meltwater, Roxhill or Zoho.
- Understanding of the West Midlands economy, stakeholder landscape and regional growth agenda.
- Design, visual communications or presentation expertise.
- Experience creating social media-focused, multimedia content for external audiences.
- Evidence of continued professional development within communications, marketing or PR.
