About the Role
Sustainable Film provides intelligent, tailored sustainability strategies to film and TV productions. With over three decades of combined film production experience and qualified sustainability consultancy expertise, our team understands the world of production and the real demands placed on crew.
The Sustainability Coordinator is a key point of contact for our clients in their production offices and for the wider Sustainable Film team. Working across the prep, shoot and wrap phases, you'll plan, implement and drive the processes that improve each production's sustainability credentials.
This is a role with real responsibility. You'll lead on delivery across your productions, with close management and strategic support of the wider Sustainable Film team, making day-to-day decisions, engaging crew directly, and driving sustainability performance rather than simply administering it. Every production is different, so you'll need to work flexibly and respond quickly to the changing needs of each one.
Key Responsibilities
What you'll own and deliver, day to day:
Production & project delivery
- Lead sustainability coordination across your productions and projects through prep, shoot and wrap.
- Implement sustainability plans and make sure processes are followed, delivering on time and within sustainability targets.
- Take ownership of your projects, resolving issues as they arise and keeping delivery on track.
Communication & crew engagement
- Produce clear, professional crew memos, newsletters, briefings and project reports.
- Deliver sustainability briefings and explain practices clearly to crew and departments.
- Engage and positively influence crew behaviour so sustainability practices are understood and followed.
Organisation, project management & internal communication
- Plan and prioritise sustainability tasks across each phase, managing your own workload to tight deadlines.
- Flag issues early and keep the wider team informed of progress, risks and key information.
- Make sure colleagues have what they need ahead of meetings and client discussions, keeping our workflows and internal systems up to date.
Data collection, processing & reporting
- Collect production data accurately across sustainability metrics and enter it into a range of carbon calculator tools.
- Process sustainability data and produce accurate, reliable reports on time.
- Use sustainability data to support project reporting and, over time, to draw out insights and improvements.
Collaboration with teams, departments & suppliers
- Work constructively with production departments, suppliers and the internal Sustainable Film team.
- Coordinate with and, where required, manage Sustainability Assistants or PAs on your productions.
- Build positive, trusted relationships across productions and supplier networks.
Innovation & sustainability leadership
- Identify opportunities to improve sustainability practices on productions and bring ideas forward.
- Support the implementation of new initiatives, tools and better ways of working.
Representing Sustainable Film
- Represent Sustainable Film and its values professionally with clients, crew and suppliers.
- Bring genuine enthusiasm for sustainability and a positive presence to every production, contributing to our team culture.
What We're Looking For
This is a hands-on role, so first-hand experience of production matters as much as coordination and organisational skill.
Essential
- Experience of film and TV production, at least at APOC level or the equivalent in another department.
- Able to get up to speed quickly and work with a good degree of autonomy, confident hitting the ground running on fast-moving productions and managing your own workload from an early stage.
- A confident communicator, both written and verbal, with clients, crew and colleagues.
- Highly organised, with strong multitasking and prioritisation skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including Teams and Excel, and comfortable picking up carbon calculator tools and project management systems and workflows.
- Self-motivated and proactive, flagging issues early and taking initiative without waiting to be asked.
- A genuine passion for sustainability and environmentally responsible practice.
- A collaborative team player who fits our ethos of action over judgement and collaboration over criticism.
Desirable
- A full driving licence, preferably with your own vehicle.
- Academic or formal sustainability experience (a bonus, but not required; a passion for sustainability matters more).
- Experience of managing or supporting junior staff, such as Sustainability Assistants or PAs.
