We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

As a Peer Support Worker within the Esteem Early Intervention Service, you will use your own lived experience of mental health recovery to inspire hope, build meaningful relationships and support individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help people identify and achieve their personal recovery goals while promoting independence, choice and wellbeing. This is a rewarding opportunity to influence recovery-focused practice and make a genuine difference in the lives of young people across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Garnavel General Hospital/ Leverndale Hospital
Tuesdays 10:00 to 14:00, and Wednesdays 10:00 to 15:36
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
Permanent, part-time

Key responsibilities:

Build trusting and supportive relationships with service users through empathy, understanding and shared lived experience
Support individuals to identify, develop and achieve their personal recovery goals
Promote hope, self-belief, self-advocacy and personal responsibility throughout the recovery journey
Assist service users to identify and overcome barriers that may impact their recovery and wellbeing
Signpost and connect individuals to local community resources, activities and opportunities
Accompany service users to appointments, meetings or activities where appropriate to support agreed recovery goals
Contribute to the development and promotion of recovery-focused practice within the multidisciplinary team

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges and the ability to use this experience positively to support others
Understanding of mental health recovery and the factors that can support or hinder an individual's progress
Ability to share personal recovery experiences appropriately, professionally and in a way that inspires hope
Experience in a supportive, enabling, voluntary or community-based role
Strong communication, active listening and relationship-building skills
Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and personal resilience in a demanding environment
SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, along with basic IT skills and a commitment to completing peer support training and ongoing development
