Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Oral Health Improvement Team Manager (Band 6) - part time An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, professional, highly organised individual to support the leadership of the Oral Health Improvement Service within the Oral Health Directorate (OHD). The post holder is responsible for organising and delivering all national Oral Health Improvement Programmes and will operationally manage the Oral Health Improvement Team (OHIT). This is a demanding role, the post requires someone with the ability to develop and maintain relationships across a wide range of partner organisations including nurseries, schools, care homes, prisons and six Health and Social Care Partnerships within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate health improvement expertise and an ability to manage resources flexibly to improve service delivery. The post holder will be able to demonstrate experience of managing a successful team, leadership skills, excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work under pressure. Full driving licence is required for this post. The successful candidate will work closely with the Operational Services Manager supporting the delivery of the objectives of the national and local programmes, including Childsmile, Caring for Smiles, Open Wide and Smiles 4 Life.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is permanent, part-time post of 14.4 hours per week
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours
The role is based at Stobhill (G21 3UR)
The shift pattern is 08:30am 16:30pm

Key responsibilities:

Lead the operational management and delivery of national and local Oral Health Improvement programmes and services
Manage, support and develop multidisciplinary teams including Team Leaders, Oral Health Educators, Extended Duties Dental Nurses, Dental Health Support Workers and Administrative Staff
Monitor service performance, activity targets and operational outcomes using information systems and performance management processes
Lead workforce management processes including recruitment, induction, attendance management, performance support and staff development
Ensure effective management of resources, equipment, supplies and budgets to maintain safe and efficient service delivery
Work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and partner organisations to develop, implement and evaluate oral health improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance with NHS policies, health and safety requirements, governance standards and quality improvement programmes

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience relevant to the role
Significant management experience within the NHS at Band 5 level (or equivalent) or above
Significant experience working within health improvement, public health or related healthcare services
Demonstrable experience of people management, policy implementation, partnership working and service development
Strong leadership, communication, influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to manage complex and sensitive situations
Knowledge of health promotion and public health principles, health inequalities, quality improvement and relevant local and national health policies
Proven ability to manage competing priorities, lead change, analyse performance information and utilise a range of IT systems effectively
