Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join our Norfolk and Waveney Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service. Three vacancies available:

Permanent full-time (1.0 WTE) Band 7/8a preceptorship post within the Central Norfolk EIP Team
Permanent part-time (0.5 WTE) Band 7/8a preceptorship post within the West Norfolk EIP Team
One-year (fixed-term/secondment) part-time (0.5 WTE) Band 7/8a post within the Central Norfolk EIP Team

Successful applicants would also have the option of combining the two 0.5 WTE posts to create a full-time role across the West Norfolk and Central Norfolk EIP teams. The Norfolk and Waveney EIP Service is a well-established specialist service within NSFT, providing assessment and treatment for people aged 14–65 experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Applications are welcomed from newly qualified, soon-to-be qualified, and experienced Clinical and Counselling Psychologists. For those joining at Band 7, our established preceptorship programme provides a structured and supportive pathway towards developing advanced competencies and progression to Band 8a. The banding of the post will therefore reflect the successful candidate's qualifications and level of experience.

Previous training and experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar (CBT-pb) and Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT) would be desirable but not essential, as relevant professional development opportunities will be available.

Main duties of the job

As a psychologist within EIP, you will provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals and their families. You will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to weekly MDT discussions, facilitating a fortnightly reflective practice group, and providing clinical supervision and line management to Assistant Psychologists and other members of the therapies team.

Our therapies team has a strong culture of collaboration and learning, with opportunities to develop experience in family work forming an important part of the role. We hold regular away days, offer opportunities for peer group supervision, and are committed to supporting continuing professional development. We are also a research-active service, with opportunities to contribute to local and national projects, and we maintain strong links with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East Anglia.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical or counselling psychology, accredited by BPS (or newly/soon to be qualified)
Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training

Desirable criteria

Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapist)

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist
Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems

Desirable criteria

Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment

Skills

Essential criteria

Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
Skills in consultation to professional and non - professional groups

Knowledge

Desirable criteria

Well-developed knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological intervention and assessment in specialist clinical settings and service user groups

Essential criteria

Able to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours
Able to use multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
