Role Purpose
RDX INC LIMITED requires Leather Workers to support its in-house manufacturing, repair, refurbishment and product development operations for boxing gloves and related leather combat sports goods. The role is required to assist with the production and repair of leather and leather-substitute products, including returned, faulty or damaged goods, and to support the company’s quality control and product recovery process.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To cut, trim, punch, shape and prepare leather and leather-substitute components for boxing gloves, protective sports equipment and related leather sporting goods.
2. To use specialist hand tools and machinery to stitch, sew, join and reinforce leather components in accordance with product specifications and required quality standards.
3. To assemble boxing glove components, including leather panels, linings, padding, wrist straps, closures and reinforced seams, ensuring accurate fitting, durability, finish and safety.
4. Assess impact-related and structural damage to protective equipment:
Examine returned boxing gloves, MMA gloves, focus mitts, Thai pads, headguards and other leather or leather-substitute protective products to identify damage affecting their construction, durability or continued usability. This includes checking split seams, torn panels, displaced padding, weakened wrist supports, damaged fastening systems, distorted shaping and areas where repeated impact may have reduced the product’s structural integrity.
5. Dismantle damaged products to determine whether repair is technically and commercially feasible: Carefully open seams, remove linings, separate damaged leather panels and expose internal padding or reinforcement components where necessary to establish the full extent of the fault. Assess whether the product can be safely restored to the required standard, whether replacement components are available and whether repair is proportionate to the product’s value and expected remaining life.
6. Replace internal padding systems in accordance with the original product specification: Remove damaged, compressed, displaced or deteriorated foam and padding components and replace them with materials of the appropriate density, thickness, shape and position. Ensure that replacement padding maintains the intended balance, fit, impact absorption, hand positioning and overall construction of the original product rather than altering its technical characteristics.
7. Restore fastening systems, wrist-support components and reinforcement panels: Repair or replace hook-and-loop closures, wrist straps, elasticated sections, fastening tabs, support bands and internal reinforcement pieces. Ensure that repaired closures operate correctly, remain securely attached under repeated use and provide the level of wrist stability and product fit required by the relevant design.
8. Reconstruct damaged structural seams using appropriate industrial sewing techniques: Re-stitch split or weakened seams using suitable industrial sewing machinery, specialist needles, high-strength thread and stitch patterns appropriate to the material and product construction. Rebuild load-bearing seams, reinforce high-stress areas and ensure that repaired stitching follows the original alignment without causing puckering, distortion or uneven tension.
9. Identify recurring product faults and manufacturing failure patterns
Record and compare faults identified during inspection and repair, including repeated seam failures, panel tearing, closure detachment, lining damage, padding movement or material weakness. Highlight recurring issues by product type, size, batch or component so that management and product-development teams can investigate underlying causes.
10. Provide practical design-improvement recommendations based on repair findings: Use observations from repeated repair work to suggest practical improvements to stitching positions, reinforcement methods, panel shapes, material selection, fastening construction, padding placement or assembly techniques. Communicate recommendations clearly to the Manufacturing Lead, Quality Assurance team or Product Engineering team for further technical review.
11. Prepare prototype, sample and trial products for product-engineering evaluation: Assist with the preparation of sample boxing gloves and related leather goods by cutting, stitching, assembling or modifying components in accordance with trial specifications. Carry out controlled adjustments to patterns, padding arrangements, panel construction or closure systems so that proposed product improvements can be physically assessed before wider production.
12. Inspect repaired products against technical and quality requirements before release: Conduct a detailed post-repair inspection to verify stitch security, panel alignment, closure performance, padding position, shape, finish and overall workmanship. Check that no sharp edges, loose threads, exposed components, uneven surfaces or unresolved defects remain before the product is approved for return to stock, further testing or controlled disposal.
13. Maintain complete repair traceability and product-recovery records within company systems: Record the product reference, SKU, batch information, reported fault, inspection findings, repair work completed, replacement materials used, repair time, final quality outcome and approval status within the company’s ERP or product-tracking system. Ensure that records are sufficiently accurate to support stock control, defect analysis, supplier discussions, quality reporting and future product-development decisions.
14. To work with the wider manufacturing, warehouse and operations teams where required to ensure that repaired or newly manufactured products are completed within agreed operational timescales.
Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required
The role requires practical experience in leather working, leather goods manufacturing, boxing glove making, leather product repair or a closely related leather craft/manufacturing role.
The employee should be able to use hand tools and relevant machinery for cutting, stitching, sewing, shaping, repairing and finishing leather and leather-substitute materials.
The employee must have the ability to assess product faults, carry out accurate repair work, maintain consistent workmanship and follow product specifications.
The role requires good attention to detail, safe handling of tools and machinery, and the ability to work as part of RDX INC LIMITED’s manufacturing and repair operation.
