Overview
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Cafe Assistant to join our vibrant team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of food safety.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic café located within a busy market environment, where no two days are the same. As a small, family-run business, we take pride in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for both our customers and our team members. We are looking for someone who is organised, punctual, reliable, and eager to develop their skills within the hospitality sector.

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day operations of the café, assist with food and drink preparation, maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards, and help ensure an excellent experience for all visitors.

Responsibilities

Prepare and serve a variety of food and beverages, including coffee, teas, and light snacks, adhering to health and safety standards
Serve customers promptly and courteously, taking orders accurately and handling payments using the till system
Maintain cleanliness of the café area, including tables, counters, and kitchen surfaces
Restock supplies such as cups, utensils, ingredients, and condiments to ensure smooth service throughout shifts
Follow food safety procedures at all times to ensure hygiene standards are met
Assist with food preparation tasks as required, including assembling sandwiches or salads
Manage time effectively during busy periods to serve customers quickly without compromising quality
Support team members with additional duties as needed to ensure efficient café operation

Skills

Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
Previous barista experience is desirable but not essential; training will be provided for the right candidate
Experience in serving customers in a fast-paced environment
Basic maths skills for processing transactions accurately
Ability to prepare food items efficiently while maintaining quality standards
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Excellent time management skills to handle busy periods smoothly
Friendly demeanour with excellent communication skills to engage positively with customers and colleagues
