The Public Health Team at Swindon Borough Council is seeking to recruit an experienced and motivated Public Health Specialist to work on the Gambling Harms prevention agenda and wider commercial determinants of health with a specific focus on Alcohol Harm.

Our vision is to create healthy, strong and resilient communities. Our highly successful public health team works to improve and protect the health of Swindon residents, tackle health inequalities and protect the most vulnerable.

Your next role

You will lead on two key Public Health workstreams, Gambling harms prevention and the upstream prevention of Alcohol-related harm, drawing on your expertise to contribute to a comprehensive health needs assessments and the design, planning and commissioning of high-quality evidence‑based interventions.

As a Public Health Specialist, you will support and manage a range of public health programmes focusing on key priorities relating to ill-health prevention associated with gambling related harms and the prevention of alcohol-related harm.

You will lead on specific areas of work directed by the Public Health Principal, contributing to the gambling harms agenda. You will influence the development of the gambling harms prevention strategy and focus on the primary prevention/upstream element of alcohol-related harm and accompanying action plans. This role will consist of the successful candidate working closely with a wide range of stakeholders including NHS partners, licensing teams, voluntary and community sector organisations, service providers, lived experience and regional networks to translate the findings of the gambling harms needs assessments into meaningful action and measurable outcomes.

You will take responsibility for projects within multiple steering groups and across multiple partners, delivering services across the Borough. You will work collaboratively with partners to monitor progress of delivery plans, drive continuous improvement, promote innovation, and develop new approaches that strengthen prevention, gambling harms literacy, and reduce health inequalities.

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
