Role

Business Development Manager (BDM)

Reports to

Founder / Managing Director

Location

Primarily remote, with required travel – weekly site visits to start.

Travel

Derby warehouse (regular) and Netherlands warehouse (occasional, fully paid)

Compensation

£30k–£40k base | OTE £45k–£70k+

SCEND is a fast-growing third-party logistics (3PL) and fulfilment partner for ambitious eCommerce, D2C, and B2B brands. From our warehouses in Derby (UK) and the Netherlands (EU), we help brands ship faster, scale internationally, and remove the operational headaches that come with growth.

Our service sells itself once people see it. The job of this role is to make sure more of the right people get to see it — on calls, in our DMs, and standing inside our warehouses.

The Opportunity

This is a true full-cycle commercial role. You’ll prospect, qualify, run discovery, host warehouse tours, build proposals, negotiate, and close. Marketing will generate qualified leads; you’ll convert them into long-term customers and add your own self-sourced pipeline on top.

Unlike most BDM roles, you have a serious physical asset to sell with. Our Derby and Netherlands warehouses are some of the strongest closing tools we have — you’ll be expected to use them.

Core Responsibilities

Outbound Prospecting

Run consistent outbound activity across email, LinkedIn, and phone targeting our ICP — eCommerce brands, D2C operators, and B2B shippers ready to outgrow their current 3PL.
Build and maintain target account lists, with clear research and personalised messaging — not spray-and-pray sequences.
Partner with marketing on content, sequences, and assets that make outbound land.

Warehouse Tours & In-Person Selling

Host prospects at our Derby warehouse for tours, deep-dive meetings, and operational walk-throughs.
Coordinate with the warehouse and operations team to run tours that actually showcase how we work.
Travel to the Netherlands warehouse to support larger or strategic deals where physical presence accelerates the close (fully paid).
Use the physical experience as a closing tool — the warehouses are your best demo.

Pipeline Management

Own your HubSpot pipeline. Every deal in the right stage, with accurate close dates, amounts, and next steps.
Run a disciplined weekly pipeline review with the founder and marketing.
Forecast accurately — we’d rather have the truth than the hopium.
Document every meaningful conversation — future-you, the team, and the customer all benefit.

Closing & Onboarding

Build proposals, pricing, and SOWs in partnership with operations.
Negotiate commercial terms that work for both sides — we want long-term customers, not one-month wins.
Own a clean, professional handover into onboarding so customers feel taken care of from day one.
Stay involved during the first 30–60 days post-close to make sure value is being delivered.

Must-have

2+ years in a closing or full-cycle B2B sales role — ideally in logistics, 3PL, fulfilment, freight, eCommerce SaaS, or selling into e-commerce brands.
Demonstrable track record of hitting or exceeding quota in a B2B environment.
Strong outbound chops — comfortable building lists, writing personalised sequences, and getting on the phone.
Confident running discovery, demos, and warehouse tours with founders and senior operators.
Comfortable in HubSpot or similar CRM at an operator level — not just a viewer.
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to Derby regularly.
Able and willing to travel internationally to the Netherlands as required (fully paid).

Nice-to-have

Existing network of eCommerce founders, ops, or supply chain leaders.
Experience selling services with operational complexity — implementation, onboarding, integrations.
Multi-language ability (Dutch, German, French) for EU expansion.

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Derby (Derbyshire, East Midlands Region)
