The Role
To competently perform the duties of a mechanical mate by assisting with plant operations, installations, handling, assembly, dismantling and other activities on equipment or within the site / workshop environment, and as instructed by Supervisor/Site Supervisor.
Key Objectives
Project Delivery and Operational Support
- Perform tasks alongside the lead mechanical technician encountered in activities such as: Assisting Installation, Assisting Operations (including testing and trials), Assisting Maintenance and repair
- Assisting and supporting installation, modification, EMIT (examination, maintenance, inspection & test), decommissioning tasks as required
- Work with the mechanical technician from schematics / diagrams / drawings to install equipment
- Assist with the Install of systems and equipment in such a way as to comply with any relevant regulatory or legislative requirements
- Complete and maintain as necessary all associated records and documentation
Internal Communication and Liaison
- Contribute to the development of business by internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence
Person Specification
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline – Desirable
- GCSE at 'C' grade or above in English, Mathematics, Science or technical subject – Desirable
- CSCS card for relevant trade – Desirable
- Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent – Relevant training will be provided required.
Experience & Knowledge
- Manufacture and fitting of mechanical parts & assemblies – Essential
- Familiar with site / factory work environments - Essential
- Lifting & Slinging experience – Desirable
- Work experience within engineering, science or construction environment – Essential
- Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information – Desirable
- Familiar with QSHEW operating procedures and requirements etc – Desirable
Skills & Abilities
- Able to organise and prioritise own work – Essential
- Able to read and write messages, interpret and carry out instructions - Essential
- Maintain simple records and documents in a readable format - Essential
- Use of hand tools for assembly - Essential
- Understands and can work to mechanical engineering drawings - Essential
- General Workshop equipment such as pedestal grinder, drill, bandsaw - Essential
- Competent user of MS Office – Desirable
- Welding – Gas & Electric ability – Desirable
- Pipe Fitting – Swagelok – Desirable
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of colleagues at all levels and with external stakeholders and contractors – Desirable
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 & 45001 – Desirable
