Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a Part-Time Retail Assistant is responsible for providing a warm and welcoming service to visitors in the Cathedral Gift Shop, helping to create a positive and memorable visitor experience. Working as part of the retail team, the postholder will support the day-to-day operation of the shop by serving customers, processing sales, maintaining attractive displays, replenishing stock, and ensuring the shop is clean, safe, and well presented. This role is primarily based on Sundays, with flexibility to provide additional cover when required, and offers an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people in a unique heritage environment.

Duties

Deliver outstanding customer service from the Cathedral shop, acting as a welcoming and knowledgeable point of contact for visitors and helping to ensure each visitor has an enriching experience.
Process transactions accurately using the EPOS system, seeking guidance from the Manager or Senior Retail Assistant where needed.
Maintain high standards of stock presentation and store cleanliness, undertaking these duties during quieter trading periods.
Receive, process, and label stock deliveries, ensuring paperwork is completed accurately and any damages or discrepancies are shared with the Manager or Senior Retail Assistant.
Remain aware of shop security during the working day, following established procedures and referring any concerns to the Manager or Senior Retail Assistant.
Support retail performance by engaging with visitors, promoting products, and assisting with personal shopping where appropriate.
Support daily retail operations in compliance with company policies of Health and Safety, Cash handling, retail code of conduct.

Qualifications

Experience of providing good customer service, either in retail, hospitality, volunteering, or another customer-facing environment.
Basic numeracy and literacy skills sufficient to process sales and complete simple paperwork accurately.
Confidence using, or willingness to learn, EPOS tills and basic computer systems.
