We have just recently refurbished our Resident Hub and Wembley Library, and we have just reopened Kilburn Library, following £1m refurbishment. It is an exciting time to join our service, as we develop new offers in our newly refurbished buildings and spaces.
Brent Libraries deliver customer focused culture, learning and information services in one of the most diverse boroughs in London. All our libraries have self-service technology, a wide-ranging book stock, regular reading and learning activities and a year-round programme of tailored events. We also offer e-books, e-audio and online resources available 24/7. We also offer Home Library and Outreach service for who find it hard to get to the library.
The Post
Successful applicants will play a key role within a vibrant and dynamic team, delivering high quality, customer-focused services. This includes handling a wide range of library enquiries, effectively signposting residents and customers to relevant council departments and external organisations, as well as designing and delivering engaging events and activities for children and adults.
The role also involves working proactively in the community through outreach initiatives and promoting the full range of library services.
A core aspect of the post is to maintain, enhance and actively promote an excellent and inclusive library offer, spanning both physical and digital collections, including community-led stock. This also extends to delivering a varied programme of events and activities for all age groups, supporting services such as housebound provision, and ensuring that all customers are aware of and able to access the breadth of services available.

Please note that this role requires flexibility, as Library and Outreach Assistants are expected to work regular evenings and weekends.
The Person
We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working in the library sector. You should be confident in promoting library services and delivering excellent customer service to a diverse range of users.
This is a fully front-facing role, requiring you to be active and visible on the library floor at all times, engaging directly with customers, supporting their needs and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
A key focus of the role is the ability to design, lead and deliver engaging events and activities, including class visits, children’s sessions and programmes for adults and families. You will take an active role in planning and facilitating these activities, ensuring they are inclusive, creative and responsive to community needs.
A passion for books and reading is essential, as inspiring a love of reading remains central to our mission.
Experience in customer service is desirable, and candidates should be confident in using ICT. Services for children and families are a cornerstone of our offer, and we particularly welcome candidates with enthusiasm and experience in working with these groups.
You will also contribute to promotional activities and events, engaging library users of all ages, and play an important role in delivering a locality-based outreach programme to extend the reach of the library to new audiences.
