At Fairburn Community Primary School, we work hard as a team to provide our children with the very best education possible. Our school is a great place to be. It is exciting, challenging, warm, friendly and incredibly rewarding. We have high aspirations for all of our children – they deserve nothing less.
Are you passionate about food and want to have full autonomy over your working day? At Fairburn, we pride ourselves on creating a positive, nurturing environment for both pupils and staff.
What you’ll be doing:
As our sole school cook, you’ll play a key role in making sure our children receive healthy, nutritious, and delicious meals every day.
- Running the kitchen and preparing a variety of meals for approximately 67 pupils daily on your own
- Working closely with our wider school staff
- Ensuring food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures are followed at all times
- Planning innovative menus in line with nutritional standards (support and guidance provided)
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy
- Responsible for ordering and kitchen paperwork
- Washing up
What we’re looking for:
- A genuine love of cooking and a desire to work in a school setting
- You need to be reliable, show initiative and be able to communicate with children
- Experience in catering (school or similar environment preferred)
- A team player who is friendly, reliable and flexible
- A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
- We would expect the successful school cook to have experience of running a small kitchen, or their own section of a bigger kitchen. You will need to have a good understanding of food safety and allergens.
- This would be an ideal role if you have experience of managing a kitchen and would enjoy working alone in the kitchen but within the wider small school team, cooking for a set number daily and working weekdays only.
- This role will require an enhanced DBS certificate
What we offer:
- A supportive, close-knit school team
- Friendly and respectful pupils
- Training opportunities and ongoing support
- Term-time working – enjoy the school holidays off!
- Local Government Pension Scheme currently with 6.5% employer contribution
- Health Assured – Confidential help and support for your wellbeing
- A pay review after 6 months
If you’d like to be part of a team that makes a real difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.
To apply, please contact school via email or telephone. If you have any queries, please contact the school on 01977 672158.
