Llys Nini Animal Centre is seeking a compassionate and motivated Receptionist / Animal Rehoming Assistant to join our team.
The successful candidate ideally should have experience and/or qualifications in animal husbandry, excellent skills in customer relations, sales experience and able to use a computer comfortably.
The basic working week is 28.125 hours (averaged).
Shift pattern consists of 9am-5pm (15 hours) on weekends and 10:30am – 4pm (15 Hours) weekdays with one Sunday off in every 4 weeks.
The majority of shifts will be working on reception with alternate weekends working on the cattery
About the Role
RECEPTION
Act as primary interface between the general public and the Animal Centre, providing an efficient and friendly ‘Front of House’ service encompassing reception, telephone, administration. Ensure Llys Nini is portrayed as professional, caring and informative about animal care and maximise donations and sales in the shop.
ANIMAL REHOMING ASSISTANT
Facilitate animal rehoming. Provide care for the animals in the Centre. Establish good customer relations, maximise adoption opportunities and maintain administration procedures.
Key Accountabilities
RECEPTION
- Efficient recording, filing and retrieval of all administrative records relating to animal acceptance, adoption and rehoming procedures – paper and electronic.
- Dealing with the RSPCA Inspectorate, Branches and general public on a range of issues including animal acceptance, adoption to new homes, management of the Centre Shop and responding to the telephone.
- Assist with shop management, including, stocking, pricing, displaying, monitoring stock levels and maximising shop sales as well as reconciliation of takings on a daily basis.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of all public areas of reception, shop and meeting rooms plus their supporting storerooms and kitchens.
ANIMAL REHOMING ASSISTANT - CATTERY
5. Carry out/record health checks on animals, reporting any significant issues to the appropriate team leader.
6. Ensure animals are up to date with vaccinations, de-fleaing and worming
7. Maintain animal records on paper and computer
8. Carry out cat/misc behavioural assessments prior to rehoming when rotad to do so
Principle Duties
RECEPTION
1. Liaise each morning with the Centre Management/Team Leaders to identify any animal care issues and any changes to the days routine.
2. Ensure that all visitors sign in and out and that they are made fully aware of any appropriate Health and Safety issues whilst on site and of any restricted areas, permanent or temporary.
3. Ensure at all times that you have a full knowledge of the status of all animals with regard to potential for adoption and the status of the site with regard to acceptance of animals.
4. Discuss and match suitable animals with potential adopters based on their respective needs in line with Llys Nini rehoming guidelines
5. Maintain and display adequate supplies of RSPCA and Branch leaflets, posters and other literature, ensuring such information is always up to date.
6. Maintain the Animal Shelter Manager database
7. Assist and participate in any fundraising or publicity events the Centre may hold and to actively promote the ‘Safe Haven Scheme’ and donations with Gift Aid.
8. Ensure reception and shop area are cleaned at end of the day
ANIMAL REHOMING ASSISTANT
9. Administer medications as prescribed by the attending veterinary surgeon in a timely manner
10. Prepare and provide food and water for animals in the Centre
11. Clean, disinfect and maintain animal accommodation, exercise areas, kitchens, stores, utility areas, etc to the standard set by management
12. Exercise/socialise with ‘Staff Only’ animals
13. Ensure animals coats are maintained by way of grooming/bathing
14. Support and coach volunteers, placement and newly appointed members of staff.
15. Assist with stock rotation
16. Report defects, including H&S issues, to the appropriate team leader in line with duty of care.
17. Cleaning of staff and public areas as rotad.
18. Secure blocks and animals at end of working day
19. Provide animals with enrichment, behavioural training etc as directed by senior management.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience and/or qualifications in Customer Care and ideally Animal husbandry
- Experience working on reception and with sales
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast moving environment
- GCSE English and Maths
- Literacy and numeracy. Able to understand written documentation and keep accurate records.
- Confidence using computers, databases, and spreadsheets
- A confident and sympathetic attitude towards animals and the general public.
- A genuine commitment to animal welfare
