Senior Vehicle Technician / Mechanic (Used Car Dealership) – Flexible Hours, £50k–£58k OTE

Location: West Wellow, Romsey, SO51
Job Type: Full-time (Flexible Hours, Employed/Self-Employed Structure negotiable depending on preferences)
Salary: £50,000 – £58,000 OTE Total Remuneration (basic + performance bonuses)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week (flexitime 7am–7pm)
No weekends required | Optional overtime available

About the Role (Vehicle Technician / Car Mechanic)

We are an independent used car dealership with 25–40 vehicles in stock and a growing workshop operation.

We are looking for an experienced Vehicle Technician / Mechanic / Car Mechanic to take ownership of workshop operations, vehicle preparation, diagnostics, servicing, and repairs.

This is a hands-on, senior-level role where you will be trusted to run day-to-day workshop activity and ensure vehicles are prepared to a high retail standard for sale. You will own the entire mechanical/electrical preparation operation of the business.

We have a good sized heated workshop on-site with two vehicle lifts, plus an additional 2 indoor spaces. We know most mechanics like to use their own tools, so there is plenty of space for your tools and toolbox. We also have a number of tools on-site, including diagnostic equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle diagnostics (electrical and mechanical fault finding)
Servicing and routine maintenance
Mechanical repairs across a wide range of vehicles
MOT preparation and pre-MOT inspections
Used car vehicle preparation for retail sale
Quality control and right-first-time repair standards
Supporting vehicle inspections and health checks
Liaising on parts ordering and repair requirements
Occasional vehicle movements (MOT stations / partner garages)
General workshop organisation and support

Requirements (Essential Skills)

Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic / Car Mechanic
Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
Strong vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding ability (mechanical + electrical)
Experience using modern diagnostic tools and systems (essential)
Ability to work independently and manage workshop workload
High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
Full UK driving licence (max 6 points)
Ability to produce right-first-time repairs

Essential (Modern Working Methods)

Confident using diagnostic software, scan tools, and modern workshop systems
Experience using AI-assisted diagnostic tools and structured fault-finding processes to improve accuracy and efficiency (essential)

Desirable Experience

Senior Technician / Master Technician background
Main dealer experience (Mercedes-Benz, VW Group, JLR, Volvo, etc.)
EV qualification or hybrid vehicle experience (additional salary available)
Smart repair / interior repair experience
Experience in independent used car dealerships or independent garages, fixing all types of vehicle issue

Salary & Benefits

£37,000-£44,000 base (depending on experience, contract type, training and accreditations)
Realistic OTE £50,000 – £58,000
Performance bonus scheme (up to £10,000 per year)
Additional 10% labour share on private/service work
Optional overtime paid at +25% uplift
Flexible working hours (7am–7pm window), work your week around your schedule
No weekend working
Low-pressure, independent dealership environment

Workshop Bonus Scheme (Performance Based)

You will receive monthly bonuses based on:

Vehicle preparation efficiency
First-time fix / no rework quality
Speed of turnaround (without compromising quality)
Contribution to vehicles being sold quickly after prep
Reduction in post-sale issues and warranty work
Overall workshop output, consistency and tidiness

This is designed to reward quality, accuracy, and efficiency—not rushed work.
