Our Visitor Services team is the first point of contact for all visitors to The Place. We provide a welcoming and efficient environment and are responsible for visitor satisfaction, answering any enquiries and dealing with all box office and front of house sales. We also keep our visitors safe during their visits and each role within the team takes on specific responsibilities during evacuations, invacuations, and first aid incidents. Appropriate training will be provided.
Our Casual Receptionists provide a friendly first welcome to The Place, handling enquiries and implementing health and safety procedures as necessary. They work closely with our Duty Managers and Classes & Courses Team to ensure a welcoming and efficient service for our visitors, participants, artists and students.
If you have experience working in a customer service environment, especially within a theatre or arts venue, and are looking for a flexible working opportunity within a dynamic, problem solving and enthusiastic team then we would love to hear from you.
The rate of pay for this position is £14.80 per hour.
This rate does not include holiday pay, which is paid separately, on top of this basic rate, calculated at 12.07% of your earnings and paid alongside.
Our rates are currently under review and a small increase in this rate is expected to be announced soon. We will update this page once the new rate is confirmed.
This is a casual, weekend contract. We are looking for those available to start their training in this role during the week commencing in early Aug.
You will be required to work at least 3 weekends (6 days, Saturdays and Sundays) each month. Additional weekday shifts may also be offered provided minimum weekend shifts are offered. Weekday shifts are not guaranteed and are not required.
Opening hours are 8:00am-10:00pm (08:00-22:00). Typical shifts are 5-6 hours long, falling within these times. You must be able to offer a mixture of both morning and evening shifts throughout each month to ensure our opening times are covered and shared fairly with the rest of the weekend team.
The Place will endeavour to agree your working hours with you ideally one month in advance, however due to the nature and flexibility of this arrangement we may call upon you to cover at shorter notice.

Provide efficient service and a warm welcome to The Place.
Keep an upbeat and friendly attitude, engaging in conversation with customers.
Ensure that you and the Reception areas are always presentable.
Often working solo, oversee the Reception space and proactively complete regular and ad-hoc tasks.
Ensure that our visitors feel welcome to participate and engage with our programme; that all feedback will be considered and is worthwhile.
Ensure, with the Building Duty Manager, our studio terms and conditions are followed.
Provide information to visitors on all aspects of our building.
Provide information about visitors, deliveries and collections.
Sell tickets using our ticketing system, Spektrix, swiftly and accurately. Notably, for our Professional Class which runs at 9:00 Monday to Friday.
Keep our patron’s personal information secure, complying with GDPR regulations.
Understand our alarm systems in order to silence, investigate, or activate procedures when they sound and support our maintenance team during tests.
Liaise with cleaning staff, Duty Managers and maintenance about any building or housekeeping issues that need attention.
Sign in and out all visitors to the building.
Log the use of keys and AV equipment and any lost property items.
Process all incoming and outgoing post and deliveries.
Arrange taxis via our taxi account provider, currently Addison Lee, logging passengers, destinations and account codes.
Act as central first aid contact point ensuring accident and incident logs are completed.
Issue staff, visitor, student and contractor passes.
Take responsibility for the reconciliation of all money at Reception.
Be responsible for cash handling and PDQ operations.
Take steps to investigate and resolve any inconsistencies or errors in the daily banking.
Monitor the security of our cash floats, cash and card payment details.
