Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable, efficient and proactive Packing and Dispatch Operative to join our team.
The role is responsible for accurately preparing and dispatching customer orders, receiving incoming deliveries and ensuring that all goods movements are recorded correctly. The successful candidate will also regularly drive a Luton box van between our production facility in Bruton and our storage site in Mudford, transporting finished products, packaging and other materials safely and securely.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong organisation and the ability to work efficiently in a busy food-manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Packing and Order Preparation
- Pick requested products and quantities ensuring shelf life is within target.
- Ensure products are packed securely to prevent damage during transportation.
- Maintain high standards of presentation across all customer orders.
Dispatch
- Prepare parcels, cartons and pallets for dispatch in line with customer requirements and timeframes.
- Book parcel and pallet collections with approved couriers and hauliers.
- Produce and apply shipping labels and relevant dispatch documentation.
- Load vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records and proof-of-collection documentation.
- Communicate any delays, shortages or dispatch issues promptly.
Goods In
- Receive deliveries of ingredients, packaging, finished goods and other materials.
- Check deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Inspect goods for damage, shortages, poor shelf life or discrepancies.
- Record all goods received accurately within the appropriate system or documentation.
- Label and move incoming goods to the correct storage location.
- Report any delivery discrepancies or damaged goods immediately.
- Ensure goods-in areas remain clean, organised and safe.
Van Driving and Stock Transfers
- Drive a Luton box van between the Bruton production facility and the Mudford storage site.
- Transfer finished goods, packaging and other materials safely between locations.
- Check that all loads are secure before travelling.
- Complete stock-transfer paperwork and ensure all movements are recorded accurately.
- Carry out basic vehicle checks and report any faults, damage or maintenance concerns.
- Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and ready for use.
- Follow all road-safety, vehicle-weight and company driving requirements.
Stock and Warehouse Organisation
- Help maintain accurate stock records across the Bruton and Mudford sites.
- Place products and materials in the correct designated locations.
- Assist with stock counts and stock checks.
- Report stock discrepancies promptly.
- Help maintain an orderly, clearly labelled and efficient storage environment.
- Rotate stock correctly and follow any applicable traceability or date-control procedures.
Hygiene, Safety and Quality
- Follow all company food-safety, hygiene, allergen and quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised packing, dispatch and storage area.
- Follow manual-handling procedures when moving cartons, pallets and materials.
- Use pallet trucks, forklifts and other handling equipment safely.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements.
- Raise concerns immediately where there is a risk to product quality, food safety or employee safety.
Person Specification
Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence with the ability to drive a Luton box van.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Able to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
- Reliable, organised and punctual.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to take responsibility.
- Able to identify problems and act without needing constant supervision.
- Comfortable working in a physical, hands-on role.
- Able to safely lift and move cartons and materials.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic confidence using computers, tablets or stock-recording systems.
- A full, valid UK driving licence suitable for driving the company vehicle.
- Confident and competent driving a Luton box van.
Desirable but not essential
- Forklift licence or experience.
- Previous experience in packing, dispatch, warehousing or goods-in.
- Experience working within a food-manufacturing or food-storage environment.
- Experience using stock-control or warehouse-management systems.
- Experience using pallet trucks or other material-handling equipment.

Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour
