Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Trailer Fitter to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and assembly of heavy goods vehicle trailers, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical and electrical background to utilise their expertise in a dynamic environment. The position is paid and suitable for those committed to delivering high-quality workmanship within a fast-paced industry.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine inspections and repairs on HGV trailers, including chassis, axles, suspension, brakes, and electrical systems.
Fabricate and modify trailer components using welding, soldering, and assembly techniques.
Interpret schematics and technical drawings to accurately perform repairs and modifications.
Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment such as excavators and forklifts to facilitate maintenance tasks.
Perform welding and electrical work to repair or upgrade trailer systems.
Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and work performed in compliance with safety standards.
Assist with equipment repair and preventive maintenance to minimise downtime.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations whilst maintaining high standards of quality.
Support customer service efforts by providing technical advice or assistance when required.

Qualifications

Proven experience in fabrication, welding, electrical systems, or mechanical repair within the transport or heavy vehicle industry.
Knowledge of schematics, assembly procedures, and equipment repair techniques.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialised machinery such as excavators and forklifts.
Strong understanding of trailer systems including brakes, suspension, electrical wiring, and chassis components.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in documentation and repair processes.
Relevant certifications or qualifications in welding, electrical work or mechanical engineering are advantageous but not mandatory.
A valid driving licence suitable for operating heavy machinery is preferred but not essential. This role offers a challenging yet rewarding environment for individuals passionate about maintaining high standards in trailer maintenance whilst developing their skills further within the industry.

Pay: £43,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

Armagh, County Armagh: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
