North Tyneside Council is reshaping the way we deliver adult social care.
Our new Community Wellbeing model has been designed with staff and people who have lived experience, and it will strengthen how we meet our Care Act 2014 duties, reduce waiting times, and improve outcomes. To support this change, we are expanding our leadership team and recruiting two Team Managers for our newly created Assessment & Support Planning Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team that will provide timely, strengths‑based assessments and short‑term support for adults across the borough as part of a more flexible, centralised approach.
The Assessment and Support Planning team will work with a diverse group of adults, including older people, younger adults with physical disabilities, neurodivergent people, and people with a wide range of care and support needs.
The team is responsible for:
-
Care Act assessments and reassessments
- Proportionate support planning
- Undertaking and contributing to safeguarding enquiries
- Providing information, advice and targeted short‑term intervention
This work supports our wider model, which also includes the CORE Team (longer‑term interventions, relationship‑based practice, and collaborative risk management) and the Review Team (planned reviews and ongoing support). Together, the teams ensure a smooth, safe, person‑centred pathway for residents.
As a Team Manager, you will:
-
Provide professional leadership to a team of social workers and community wellbeing officers
- Supervise and support 2–3 Assistant Managers, helping them develop practice and performance
- Oversee workflow and performance to reduce waiting times and meet service targets
- Provide oversight of complex safeguarding and risk-based decision making
- Ensure assessments and support plans are high quality, strengths based and legally defensible
- Champion the new operating model and contribute to ongoing service improvement
- Translate strategic priorities into clear, achievable operational delivery
You will play a key role in embedding our new structure and shaping the culture of a team that values creativity, inclusion, and professional curiosity.
We are looking for leaders who are:
-
Confident, compassionate and supportive
- Skilled at managing staff, performance and workflow
- Knowledgeable about Care Act 2014 duties, adult safeguarding and strengths‑based practice
- Able to analyse and use data to drive improvement
- Comfortable challenging practice and fostering reflective thinking
- Committed to high‑quality social work and positive outcomes for residents
You must hold a recognised qualification registered with Social Work England, HCPC, or NMC.
We will support you with your career ambitions: we're incredibly proud to have come 2nd in the country for social worker satisfaction in the 2025 Employee Standards Health Check. We achieved a 'Good' rating in our recent CQC inspection, which highlighted our positive organisational culture and investment in professional development.
You will join a service committed to supporting leaders through high‑quality supervision, training, and opportunities to develop your career. You will help shape a newly designed model of adult social care at a time of growth and investment.

Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council’s operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government’s net zero target of 2050.
We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can’t do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us. Together we can make North Tyneside a sustainable place to live and work for everyone in the borough.
