Full job description

Accounts Assistant

We are looking for a motivated, organised, and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to begin a career in accounting and finance while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Full training will be provided.

About the Role

Hours: 20 hours per week (5 days per week)
Salary: £26,936 per annum (pro rata)

Key Responsibilities

As an Accounts Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operations of the finance department by:

Processing purchase invoices, sales invoices, credit notes, and refunds
Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
Assisting with bank reconciliations and cash postings
Maintaining accurate financial records and organised filing systems
Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
Responding to and resolving supplier and customer queries
Assisting with month-end and year-end financial procedures
Entering and updating data within accounting systems
Answering telephone enquiries and directing calls as appropriate
Providing general administrative support to the finance team

Skills and Attributes

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Good numeracy skills and confidence using IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel
A willingness to learn and develop new skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
A positive, proactive attitude and strong work ethic

Qualifications and Requirements

A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
A genuine interest in pursuing a career in accounting or finance
Previous accounting experience is not required, as full training will be provided
