Working Pattern: 36 Hours per week

Location: Town House, Kirkcaldy but must have ability to travel Fife Wide

Job Details

This is an exciting time to join the Reviewing Service within Communities Directorate. The post holder will undertake the role of Reviewing Officer, providing independent oversight of care planning for children and young people, particularly those who are care experienced and on the child protection register.

Working closely with social work teams, partner agencies, children, young people and their families, the Reviewing Officer will:

Chair statutory meetings for children who are looked after or subject to child protection concerns, ensuring that the child’s plan is robust, outcome-focused, and in the best interests of the child.

Ensure the voice of the child is central to all planning and review processes, promoting participation and rights-based practice across both Looked After and CP processes.

Monitor and review children’s plans, identifying drift or delay and ensuring timely progression towards outcomes, permanence and stability.

Provide independent challenge and quality assurance, offering constructive feedback to practitioners and managers to improve practice and outcomes.

Maintain oversight of key areas of practice, including permanence planning, placement stability, and wellbeing outcomes.

Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, carers, and families to ensure coordinated and effective support.

Escalate concerns where plans are not progressing appropriately, ensuring accountability and compliance with statutory duties.

Contribute to service improvement, using learning from reviews, data, and feedback from children and families to inform practice development.

Represent the service in relevant meetings and working groups, supporting continuous improvement and best practice across Children and Families Services.

The Person

You will be educated to SCQF level 9, which includes a Degree or equivalent, and hold a relevant Social Work qualification.

You will have experience of working within a Children and Families setting, with a strong understanding of legislation, policy, and practice relating to looked after and care-experienced children.

You will have experience of chairing meetings, reviewing care plans, or undertaking quality assurance activity.

You will be skilled in analysis, professional curiosity, and constructive challenge, with the ability to identify risk and support improved outcomes.

You will be a motivated and organised individual who can work autonomously and manage competing priorities.

Your communication skills will include the ability to listen, influence, advise and challenge effectively across a range of professional relationships.

You should have the ability to travel across Fife.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland.
