About the Role
Wrexham County Borough Council have exciting opportunities for Experienced Social Workers within the Assessment Intervention Team and the Family Support Team.

This Experienced Social Worker post in the Assessment Intervention Team and the Family Support Team attracts a recruitment incentive payment of £3,300 as a welcome to the Council.
In certain conditions an additional retention incentive payment of £3,300 may also be applicable on the anniversary of your appointment if you remain in service in an eligible role/ team.

Experienced Social Worker - Assessment Intervention Team
The Assessment and Intervention Team is a specialist social work service responsible for completing proportionate, analytical assessments where there are emerging or identified safeguarding concerns. The team leads on initial child protection enquiries, ensuring risks are thoroughly assessed and that timely, defensible decisions are made in line with statutory requirements. Practice is grounded in a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, working collaboratively with families to build on strengths and resilience while maintaining a clear focus on risk. Wherever possible, we support children to remain within their family networks, while taking decisive action when needed to secure their safety.
The Assessment and Intervention Team fosters a reflective and supportive team culture, recognising the emotional demands of social work and prioritising staff wellbeing. Practitioners benefit from regular supervision, reflective discussions, and a strong peer support network, creating a safe space to explore complex cases and support effective decision-making. Informal support is equally valued, enabling staff to debrief and maintain resilience in their roles.
Experienced Social Worker - Family Support Team
We are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people, with a strong anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive approach. The role involves working collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies at child protection and care proceedings level, undertaking statutory duties including assessments, care and support planning, and direct work to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong assessment skills, sound knowledge of safeguarding and thresholds, and the ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining high-quality records and reports. You will be confident working in multi-agency settings and, where needed, within court proceedings. The Family Support Team promotes a reflective, supportive culture with regular supervision, strong peer support, and a focus on staff wellbeing. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where practitioners feel valued and empowered to deliver high-quality, child-centred practice and achieve meaningful outcomes for families.
An Enhanced DBS check & Social Care Wales registration is required for this position.
