Full job description

We are currently looking for an experienced property assistant to support a single fee earner, as part of an experienced property team currently consisting of 6 fee earners and 5 assistants.

This role will require someone capable of taking specific steps in property matters. This will be a transactional role, where responsibility will lie with the solicitor in charge who will delegate tasks as required. These will include file opening, searching, and various steps pre and post completion.

Preference will be given under our established policy to an individual who knows the Wharfe Valley and surrounding area and who has a real connection with it.

The right person must be experienced enough to take on the delegated task with a minimum of supervision as well as manage their own work flow.

Main Duties:

To act as assistant to a fee earner in the property department.

Other Duties include:

Typing from digital dictation , quickly and accurately and prioritising where required and/or noted
Composing and producing routine correspondence and documents using the firm’s Case Management System (LEAP) and assisting in ongoing developments of that system
Opening new files and matters and send out fee estimate letters
Scan client ID & other documents and update the matter file
Obtain Property searches
Obtain documents from Land Registry, office copy entries.
Complete registration post completion with Land Registry
File SDLT return and arrange payment of SDLT tax
File any deeds and document in storage accurately
Assisting with the workload of others in the property team where time allows and/or priorities and/or holiday periods require

Responsible for: Assisting the property department in all matters relating to domestic conveyancing and management of files

Reporting to: The Property Partner

Academic qualifications: None necessary

Practical qualifications: Previous legal experience in property related matters essential
