1 x 32.5 hours - Full Time
2 x 13 hours - Thursday/Friday
2 x 6 hours Friday
Term Time Only plus 10 days

Enhanced Teaching Assistant (SEN)

The Governors are seeking to appoint highly motivated, committed and experienced Enhanced Teaching Assistants who will play a key role in providing support for pupils with special educational needs.

The successful candidates will support the Class Teacher in the teaching and welfare of pupils including administration of medication and leading lessons in the absence of the Class Teacher.

We are looking for someone who:
Has experience in teaching and caring for children with special educational needs
Demonstrates excellent behaviour management skills
Is able to work as a part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
Enjoys working independently and with initiative
Is able to work effectively with children either individually and in small groups to enable them to achieve their best
Is highly organised and has good time management skills
Is flexible, proactive and resourceful
Demonstrates good English and Mathematics skills (GCSE Grade 9-4 (old grade A-C) or equivalent/higher
Has excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Understands confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

Only fully completed Durham County Council Support Staff Application forms will be accepted and must be returned by no later than 9am Monday 22 June 2026.

Calculation of term time only plus 10 days pay

Term time only plus ten additional days pay is calculated on the basis of the following:

Number of teaching weeks - 38 weeks; plus
Public (bank) holidays - 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
Ten additional days, inclusive of CPD - 10 days; plus
Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)

Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:

Calculation for employees with less than 5 years service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Calculation for employees with more than 5 years service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
