Furnished Homes is expanding, and we're looking for an experienced Delivery & Fleet Supervisor to join our Bristol operation.
This is a leadership role focused specifically on supervising and managing a team of delivery drivers. You will not be primarily responsible for driving yourself. Your focus will be on leading the delivery team, supporting drivers, maintaining fleet and Health & Safety standards, managing performance and ensuring our delivery operation runs safely, efficiently and professionally.
A minimum of 1 year's previous experience directly supervising a team of delivery drivers is essential for this role. We are looking for someone who understands the particular challenges of managing a mobile team of drivers and is confident dealing with driver performance, attendance, conduct, vehicle compliance, road safety and delivery standards.
Experience supervising warehouse staff alone would not meet the requirements of this position.
You will play a key role in creating a positive, accountable culture within the delivery team. You will be expected to support and develop drivers, address performance and conduct issues when necessary, and ensure Health & Safety and company procedures are followed consistently.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced delivery supervisor who enjoys leading people, improving standards and taking ownership of a busy operation.
What You'll Be Responsible For
· Directly supervising and supporting a team of delivery drivers.
· Managing the day-to-day operation of the delivery fleet.
· Ensuring drivers understand and follow company procedures and delivery standards.
· Monitoring driver performance, attendance, conduct and customer service.
· Holding regular conversations with drivers regarding performance, standards and expectations.
· Addressing poor performance, attendance or conduct issues fairly and professionally.
· Supporting the recruitment, induction and training of new delivery drivers where required.
· Coaching and developing drivers to improve performance, safety and customer service.
· Ensuring all vehicle inspections, servicing, defect reporting and maintenance requirements are completed.
· Monitoring vehicle condition and ensuring defects are reported and dealt with appropriately.
· Maintaining accurate driver, vehicle, maintenance and compliance records.
· Carrying out regular vehicle, driver and delivery audits.
· Ensuring Risk Assessments and Dynamic Risk Assessments are completed, understood and followed.
· Ensuring drivers work safely and comply with company Health & Safety procedures.
· Investigating accidents, incidents, vehicle damage and near misses.
· Reviewing photographs, videos, telematics and other available evidence following incidents.
· Identifying unsafe behaviour or working practices and taking appropriate action.
· Working with drivers to improve standards and prevent repeat incidents.
· Supporting the Drivers & Fleet Manager with operational and compliance requirements.
· Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes, efficiency and safety.
· Maintaining high standards of vehicle presentation and driver professionalism.
· Working closely with other departments to resolve delivery issues and customer concerns.
· Supporting other company locations.
Essential Experience
The following is essential for this role:
· Minimum 1 year's experience directly supervising a team of delivery drivers.
· Experience managing driver performance, attendance and conduct.
· Experience working with a delivery fleet or driver workforce.
· Experience dealing with vehicle, driver or fleet compliance.
· Experience managing Health & Safety within a delivery, transport or similar operational environment.
· Experience addressing performance issues and having difficult conversations with employees.
· Strong organisational and administrative skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Confident using Microsoft Office and other computer-based systems.
· Full UK Driving Licence.
Please note: experience supervising warehouse staff alone will not meet the essential delivery-driver supervision requirement.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
· Experience within furniture or home delivery operations.
· Experience supervising drivers delivering furniture, appliances or other large or bulky goods.
· Experience using fleet management or vehicle telematics systems.
· Experience managing vehicle inspections, defects, servicing or maintenance.
· Experience completing or reviewing Risk Assessments and Dynamic Risk Assessments.
· Experience investigating workplace accidents, road traffic incidents, near misses or vehicle damage.
· IOSH Managing Safely or another Health & Safety qualification.
· First Aid at Work qualification.
· Experience managing delivery performance through KPIs or operational targets.
· Experience working with delivery scheduling or route planning systems.
We're Looking For Someone Who
You're an experienced delivery team leader who is confident managing drivers and understands that effective supervision is about both supporting people and maintaining standards.
You will be:
· A confident and experienced people manager.
· Fair, consistent and professional in your approach.
· Comfortable having difficult conversations when required.
· Confident holding drivers accountable for their performance and conduct.
· Proactive in identifying and resolving problems.
· Strong on Health & Safety and operational compliance.
· Highly organised and methodical.
· Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a busy environment.
· Able to remain calm and professional under pressure.
· A good communicator who can build positive working relationships with drivers.
· Confident challenging unsafe behaviour or poor standards.
· Someone who leads by example.
· Comfortable working independently and taking ownership.
· Committed to developing people and improving operational performance.
Most importantly, you will understand that supervising delivery drivers is different from supervising a team working in a warehouse or fixed location. Drivers spend much of their working day away from the workplace, and the role requires strong communication, accountability, monitoring and follow-up to ensure standards are maintained.
What You'll Receive
· Monday to Friday working – no regular weekends.
· Competitive salary.
· Company pension.
· Ongoing training and professional development.
· Support from an experienced senior management team.
· The opportunity to make a genuine impact within a growing business.
· Career progression opportunities.
· The opportunity to help shape and improve the Bristol delivery operation.
· A varied role with genuine responsibility and autonomy.
