Job Purpose
The Head of Tutor Delivery leads the delivery side of CST Training’s tutor function — its people, its capacity, and the consistency of how we deliver. The post-holder owns the tutor body as an operational and commercial asset: making sure the right tutors are available for the right courses at the right time, that the Leads are developing as leaders, and that the function operates as one faculty.
This is a leadership role first and a subject-matter role second. The post-holder is not expected to be the strongest tutor in the room; they are expected to develop and hold to account the Leads who are. A primary focus is the development of managers and the commercial management of tutor capacity against demand.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the Delivery Team
- Line manages and develops the four Lead Tutors, setting clear objectives and holding them to high standards of delivery, consistency and learner experience.
- Develop line managers into confident, effective leaders through structured coaching and support.
- Foster a single-faculty culture across the four groups, so tutors operate as one team rather than separate groups.
- Own the group structure: group composition, balance, and the allocation of tutors to groups based on development needs and working relationships.
Capacity and Commercial Management
- Own workforce planning and the balance of tutor capacity against demand across the groups.
- Maintain commercial awareness of how tutor utilisation, availability and deployment affect revenue, cost and margin.
- Contribute to portfolio, pricing and forecasting conversations with the commercial and scheduling functions.
Interfaces and Cross-Functional Working
- Own the interface with Scheduling, ensuring tutor availability and deployment run smoothly without day-to-day escalation.
- Work closely with Sales/Commercial, the Head of Training Standards, and HR/People on shared priorities.
- Act as the operational point of accountability for delivery issues raised by group Leads or Standards.
- Supports recruitment of new tutors via 2nd interview structure.
Onboarding and Standards
- Hold custodianship of the onboarding playbook, working with the Lead Tutors to bring new tutors up to productivity within agreed timeframes.
- Act on quality issues raised by the Head of Training Standards
- Own the course lead structure for specialist course types.
Boundaries of the Role
- Does not routinely deliver training; may co-deliver occasionally or in genuine emergency, but this is not a teaching role.
- Does not own course content — this sits with the Head of Training Standards.
- Does not own day-to-day scheduling; owns the interface with it.
- Does not manage individual tutors directly except in genuine escalation.
