Full job description

We are seeking experienced and dedicated SEMH Mentors to join our team. The successful candidates may be placed in various schools across Birmingham, working directly with students who need additional support with their emotional and social development.

As this is a term time based role and you will be paid for the work you do, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work across different school settings based on our contracts. We only work during term time and there will be no work during half-terms and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one and group SEMH mentoring sessions to young people
Work across various schools in Birmingham, as per our current contracts
Support students with emotional regulation, social skills, and mental health challenges
Develop and implement tailored mentoring plans based on student needs
Build positive relationships with young people, school staff, and families
Collaborate with school staff to identify and address barriers to student success
Monitor and report on student progress, adjusting mentoring strategies as needed
Maintain flexibility to travel between schools based on service demand

Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience working as an SEMH mentor, youth worker, or in a related field (essential)
Strong understanding of SEMH issues and strategies to support young people
Ability to engage and build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds
Safeguarding certificate or awareness
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage your schedule efficiently
Patience, empathy, and a passion for making a positive impact
Knowledge of safeguarding practices and child protection policies
Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, mentoring, psychology, or counselling (desirable)
Flexibility to travel between schools across Birmingham (essential)
