Job Description

Flexible Learning School is an Ofsted-rated Good independent Alternative Provision supporting secondary-aged pupils across Birmingham. We provide a nurturing, inclusive and aspirational learning environment where every young person is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Business Studies Teacher who is passionate about inspiring learners and equipping them with the knowledge, confidence and employability skills they need for future success. This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people through engaging teaching, positive relationships and high expectations.

The Role

Based at our Hockley or Northfield site, you will report directly to the Head of Teaching and Learning.

Salary: Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
Hours: 9:15am - 3:30pm
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Lunch and Breaks: 1 hour (unpaid)
Hours per Week: 26 hours 15 minutes
Location: Hockley or Northfield, Birmingham

As our Business Studies Teacher, you will deliver engaging and inspiring lessons that encourage pupils to develop business knowledge, financial awareness, enterprise skills and confidence. Working with small class sizes, you will adapt your teaching to meet the individual needs of pupils, many of whom require additional support to overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, high-quality Business Studies lessons that inspire and motivate pupils.
Develop creative lesson plans and learning resources that meet curriculum requirements and support outstanding teaching and learning.
Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that develops pupils' understanding of business, enterprise, finance and employability.
Differentiate learning to meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.
Assess, monitor and record pupil progress using a range of formative and summative assessment strategies.
Prepare pupils for GCSE examinations and support them to achieve their full academic potential.
Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports pupil progress and raises achievement.
Set appropriate learning targets and monitor progress towards them.
Create a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel supported and encouraged to succeed.
Use effective behaviour management strategies to maximise learning and engagement.
Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external professionals.
Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, assessment, progress and pupil achievement.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and contribute to curriculum development.
Participate in staff meetings, training, CPD, parents' evenings and school events.
Support the wider life of the school and contribute to continuous school improvement.
Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection in line with statutory guidance.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who has:

A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, DET, Cert Ed or equivalent).
A degree or relevant qualification in Business Studies or a related subject.
Experience teaching Business Studies at secondary level.
Excellent lesson planning, preparation and organisational skills.
Experience of assessing, monitoring and tracking pupil progress.
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
The ability to differentiate learning for pupils with a wide range of abilities and additional needs.
High expectations of pupils' achievement, behaviour and personal development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for young people.
A flexible, resilient and positive approach to teaching within an Alternative Provision environment.
A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Experience of working within an Alternative Provision, specialist setting or with pupils with SEND or SEMH needs would be advantageous but is not essential.
