Children North East is a large North East based children’s charity that works across the region, with some work extending across England, Wales and Scotland. We exist because growing up can be hard. We want all babies, children and young people to be happy and healthy, and to grow up feeling safe and loved, resilient to the challenges they may face, and valued and confident.

Purpose of the Role

Are you passionate about helping families learn, grow and thrive together? We have an exciting opportunity within our Communities Service for a Family Learning Coordinator to deliver engaging family learning programmes in schools and community settings.

In this rewarding role, you will work directly with parents, carers, children and young people to create positive learning experiences that build confidence, strengthen relationships and support children’s development. Experience of delivering community-based training and working with families is essential.

Line Management Responsibilities & Working Relationships

You will report directly to the Team Manager.
Develop professional relationships within the identified areas of work.
Work under the direction of the Team Manager to support effective delivery.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver a range of welcoming, practical and engaging family learning sessions for parents, carers and their children.
Develop creative schemes of work, lesson plans and session materials that respond to the needs of families and partner settings.
Coordinate sessions across identified schools and community venues, supporting promotion of the Family Learning offer and encouraging participation.
Plan, promote, deliver, record, monitor and evaluate activities in line with Children North East’s policies, service procedures and legal requirements.
Champion the rights, voices and wellbeing of children and young people in every aspect of the role.
Work with the Team Manager to support high-quality delivery, continuous improvement and service development.

Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Experience of delivering training to parents/carers.
Experience of working with babies, children and young people. 
Experience of working with parents and carers across a range of environments. 
Experience of working within a school or community settings. 
Knowledge and understanding of child development/school readiness 
Ability to work independently, remain self-motivated and follow relevant guidance, policies and procedures. 
Experience of working as part of a team while also using initiative effectively. 
Experience of recording, monitoring and evaluating work or service activity. 
Awareness of safeguarding procedures; training will be provided in relation to Children North East’s own policies and procedures. 
Ability to use supervision effectively and develop reflective practice. 
Ability to work in a challenging and changing environment. 
Good verbal and written communication skills. 
Commitment to the behaviours, values, aims and objectives of Children North East. 
Ability to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the post. 
Access to a car and the ability to drive to meet the requirements of the role.

Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Relevant Level 3 qualification or above.
Evidence of recent training relevant to the post.
Experience of using a data management system.
Knowledge of services available in the region for babies, children, young people and families.
Experience of working with multicultural communities and environments.

The working week is 22.5 hours per week for this post which is part-time against full-time hours of 37 per week.
