About Us

At The Academy, Selsey we have a clear focus on raising standards of academic performance for 11 to 16 year olds. Since opening in September 2011 we have made good progress towards our ultimate goal of becoming an outstanding school.

Job Details

33.75 hours per week
8.15am to 3.30pm
Grade 5 - £26,403 to £26,824 (Full-time equivalent)
Estimation of actual salary - £20,623 - £20,952
Term time only plus INSET days

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

To provide classroom cover for absent teachers as requested by allocation from the Cover Coordinator
To manage and supervise classes of students and to present the work set by the absent teacher in order to enable students to continue to learn effectively
To maintain good discipline of classes in your care and to implement the school’s Behaviour Policy where necessary
To provide objective and accurate feedback to the returning teacher on the conduct of the lesson and to keep appropriate records as necessary
To undertake Break Duties up to a maximum of 2 duties a week
To take Tutor Groups in the absence of their Tutor and to attend assemblies and facilitate other tutor based activities where appropriate
Where classroom cover is not required to undertake activities at the direction of the Headteacher or other designated member of staff
To undertake the invigilation of examinations where necessary
To promote and safeguard the welfare of students. Feeding back to appropriate colleagues any concerns regarding students.
Supporting trips and off-site activities as appropriate.
Assisting with displays of students work around the academy as required.
Involvement in extra-curricular activities as appropriate.
To undertake relevant training as required to support the functions of the post and to enhance personal development.
To deputise for the Cover Co-ordinator in his absence.
To undertake safeguarding training, be aware of Child Protection guidance and act with vigilance to ensure all students are safe.
To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation

Are confident managing a classroom and maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment
Communicate effectively and empathetically with students
Are IT literate and can support classroom systems
