About us
We are a small but ambitious hospitality group built on a genuine love of exceptional food and drink, and we are looking for an experienced operator to help us grow.
Our family of venues includes:
Out Lane Social, Croston - a village bistro restaurant that has been featured in the Good Food Guide UK for two consecutive years. Under Head Chef Craig, the kitchen lives and breathes its produce: local ingredients, rare breed meat cuts and Cornish day boat seafood. It is a restaurant with a real identity and a loyal following.
The Moorbrook Inn, Preston - a traditional pub at its best: craft ales, cosy tap rooms, open fires and a thriving programme of seasonal events in its outside space.
Croston Pizza Co - our wood-fired pizza offering, operating from a horsebox van outside Out Lane Social and as the sole food offering inside The Moorbrook. It also trades on the major delivery platforms from both venues.
We are also preparing to launch two exciting new arms of the business:
- Out Lane at Home, a food and drink offering bringing the restaurant's produce into customers' kitchens, from chef's menu boxes and wine pairings to cheese and wine boxes for dinner parties, and weekend pastry and sourdough pickups.
- Out Lane Outside, our weddings and events arm, specialising in bespoke event catering cooked over fire for genuinely special, artisan occasions.
The role
As Group Operations Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day running and long-term growth of all our offerings. You will have direct line management of our venue managers (the Out Lane Social restaurant manager, the Moorbrook manager and the Croston Pizza Co manager), and you will work closely with our Board of Directors to shape the future of the group.
This is a senior, strategic role with plenty of variety. One day you might be tightening a P&L, the next you could be cooking up an events calendar, building a relationship with a new supplier, or overseeing the launch of a brand new venture.
What you will be doing
- Overseeing the smooth, consistent running of all venues
- Overhauling and tightening the P&L across the group, with a clear focus on profitable growth
- Drilling down into the unique identity of each offering and making sure we always play to our strengths
- Providing direct, supportive line management to our venue managers
- Curating and driving an ambitious events schedule across all venues
- Building lasting relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, both to ensure our offering is right and to draw on those relationships to tell stories that inform and enrich our marketing
- Working with the Board to implement a focused new marketing plan covering all channels, with a particular emphasis on social media and online outreach; this will include helping to plan and recruit either an in-house marketer or an agency relationship
- Leading the launch of Out Lane at Home and Out Lane Outside, helping to shape, build and grow both ventures from the ground up
Who we are looking for
This role is ideal for someone who has lived and breathed hospitality for many years, particularly in management and operations roles, but who is ready to step away from the relentless hours and lifestyle so often associated with the industry.
You will likely have:
- Significant experience in hospitality management or operations, ideally across multiple sites
- A strong commercial head, with proven ability to manage and improve a P&L
- Confident leadership and people-management skills
- A genuine passion for fine wines and fantastic food
- The drive and vision to help a growing group reach its potential
Hours, location and lifestyle
The role is primarily based across our two venues in Preston and Croston, with some light travel to meet suppliers and clients. We are offering predominantly weekday daytime hours; a refreshing change from typical hospitality.
You would be expected to attend a small number of out-of-hours weekend services to ensure our standards remain consistently high. These would be drop-ins and special event oversight only. You would not be expected to run shifts or to open and close the venues.
Reward
You will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be rewarded for the growth you help create. We are putting in place an ambitious yet achievable bonus structure, so your success and ours go hand in hand.
