Job Purpose
· Contribute to a high standard of care for all children in the nursery
· Take responsibility for and provide and maintain a hygienic and safe environment for children, staff, parents and all visitors
· Provide nutritious meals, snacks and beverages within a hygienic environment in line with the menus
· Provide and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the nursery
· Develop and maintain good working relationships and give support to other team members throughout the nursery
- Promote the high profile and reputation of the business at all times
- Complete all appropriate work in line with Food Safety regulations
Duties and responsibilities: food and beverage
· In liaison with the nursery manager develop cost effective and nutritious menus taking account of the children’s individual dietary needs
· Prepare, cook and serve quality food and beverages to a high standard
· Control and avoid waste / damage of all resources: food, beverage, fuel and equipment
· Keep the kitchen and all equipment in good working order and clean and tidy at all times
· Maintain food hygiene standards in accordance with current food and safety legislation, procedures and regulations
- Order food, beverage and catering supplies economically in liaison with the nursery manager and ensure safe and secure storage
Duties and responsibilities: housekeeping
· Use and safely store nursery cleaning materials / disinfectants and equipment in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions and safety legislation
· Record all cleaning activities and provide an audit trail and risk assessments
· Highlight slippery floors / surfaces with safety signs etc. when cleaned / wet.
General duties and responsibilities
· Engage in good team working and develop yourself as a good team member
· If required, attend out of working hours activities: e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents’ evenings, fundraising events etc.
· Be flexible within the working practices of the nursery and be prepared to help where needed
· Read, understand and adhere to all nursery policies and procedures relevant to your role
· Record accidents in the accident book and gain authorisation / endorsement by the manager
· Report any irregularity, unusual or potentially unsafe incident to the Manager
· Respect the confidentiality of all information received in line with the Data Protection Act.
· Promote the high profile of the nursery, its policies and procedures and uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
· Undertake regular training in accordance with your job role
· Attend monthly staff meetings outside working hours as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
· A recognised catering qualification at Level 2 or above
· At least two years’ experience of catering for young children and/or catering for special diets
· Up to date knowledge of current hygiene and food safety regulations
· Current food hygiene certificate
· Up to date specialist First Aid certificate or willing to complete training
· Current enhanced DBS Certificate
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Good personal presentation and hygiene
· Flexible, can-do, helpful attitude
· Patient, caring and good sense of humour
· Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team.
Desirable
· Non-smoker preferred
· IT literate & Good telephone manner
