Responsible for: Track Academy Study Support Athletes (both under 18s and 18+)
Time: Tuesday 4 pm - 5 pm, Saturday 9 am - 11 am
Location: Willesden, North West London
Hourly rate: £45 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Employment Status: Freelance
DBS disclosure: Enhanced DBS required
An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for Tutoring for English,maths and Science in Track Academy. Track Academy is an organisation in Brent that combines Education, athletics and mentoring, we use this tool to engage with our young people in the borough of Brent. Track Academy is looking for an individual who has teaching experience to help our young people with their revision, homework and making them feel more confident in their studies. Our Education runs every Tuesday from 4pm to 5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am.
The Organisation:
Track Academy is an Athletics, Education and Mentoring organisation based in the heart of Brent, we use these tools to engage with young people and bring confidence and develop skills that will prepare them for the future. Track Academy has been running for the past 20 years and we see our young people 52 times a week. Track Academy recently became a competing club, this allows Track Academy to expand its arms for more young people who want to become Track Academy.
The role
As a Tutor at Track Academy, you will support young people across the core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Science, working with students from Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 3. Your scheduled sessions will include supporting Key Stage 3 students on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining professional, supportive relationships with both students and coaching staff, ensuring alignment with Track Academy’s vision of developing confidence and excellence in both athletics and education.
During each session, you will assess students’ individual strengths and areas for development, using this insight to tailor your support effectively. Your role will involve delivering targeted guidance to help students overcome challenges, strengthen their understanding, and build confidence in their academic abilities.
As a Tutor, your goal is to support students in improving areas of weakness while continuing to nurture and extend their strengths. You will encourage a positive learning mindset, fostering resilience, motivation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Essential – At least 5 GCSEs grades A-C (including English language grades A-A*)
- Essential – A level English language grades A-A*
- Essential – English graduate/undergraduate
- Desirable – QTS or other relevant teaching qualifications
We are happy to consider those who do not have all the above qualifications if they can demonstrate their ability to support student athletes up to GCSE level during the paid trial period in the role.
Experience
- Essential - working as part of a team
- Desirable - working with young people in an informal setting (after school clubs, charity organisations etc.)
- Experience working with students of varying abilities (primary school to secondary school)
- Experience preparing students for specific exams (GCSE and SATS)
- Classroom teaching experience in addition to tutoring.

Responsibilities
- Be able to differentiate between different learning needs and accommodate all varying intellectual needs.

- Ensure appropriate content of teaching and learning in line with curriculum demands.

- Assess the students current level and goals.

Classroom management and behaviour education
- Establish positive and maintain a task-oriented learning environment.
- Set and adhere to timelines for completion of work.
- Negotiate and implement consequences, if expectations are not adhered to.
- Respond appropriately to student behaviour and escalate prolonged, repeated or severely irresponsible behaviour to your coordinator.
Assessment and reporting of student learning
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and achievement.
- Use assessment tasks that are purposeful and relevant to the teaching and learning programme and the learning needs of students
- Provide students with positive feedback on performance that reinforces student achievement and focuses on improvement.
- Provide detailed, accurate and informative written and oral reports about students as required by the school.
Additional duties/responsibilities
The nature of Track Academy work is such that tasks and responsibilities can be unpredictable and/or varied. All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible manner when tasks that are not specifically covered in their job description have to be undertaken.
