We’re The Reading Room a busy, much loved café on Brighton’s eastern seafront, serving up breakfasts, seasonal lunches, and vibrant dinners in a relaxed, welcoming space with unbeatable sea views.

We’re a family run business that truly values its team. We believe in creating a workplace where people feel supported, respected, and part of something special. As we grow, we’re looking for a full-time Front of House team member to help us deliver friendly, efficient service and an outstanding guest experience every single day.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Welcome every guest with a warm smile and friendly greeting, making them feel right at home
Take food and drink orders accurately and confidently, ensuring smooth communication with the kitchen and bar
Deliver orders promptly and check in with guests to ensure they’re having a great experience
Keep the dining area clean, tidy, and inviting throughout service
Manage table turns efficiently while maintaining excellent customer care
Handle takeaway and reservation queries with professionalism and ease
Support team members by helping with setup, restocking, and closing duties
Stay calm and focused during busy periods, always keeping a positive attitude
Spot opportunities to improve guest experience and share your ideas with the team

Who We’re Looking For:

Someone with a friendly and approachable personality who loves making people feel welcome
Previous experience in hospitality is preferred, but a great attitude and willingness to learn count just as much
Excellent communication skills and a team player mentality you enjoy working closely with colleagues to deliver top service
Able to stay calm and organised under pressure, especially during busy shifts
Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic and positive mindset
Someone who is keen to develop their skills and progress, ideally looking to move into management in the future
Flexible and adaptable, willing to help out with different tasks as needed
Passionate about delivering great customer experiences and always ready to go the extra mile
