Full job description

Location: Staffordshire Students' Union, Stoke-on-Trent

Salary: £28,027 to £30,341 (Grade 5, SCP 22-25)

Hours: Full Time, annualised hours (predominantly term time with Christmas and New Year off)

Roles on our Venue Management Team are demanding, full-time positions and are therefore not suitable to undertake alongside studies

Our venues are at the heart of that experience - from coffee and daytime social space through to late-night events and entertainment. As Deputy Venues Manager, you’ll play a key role in creating the environment where students connect, unwind and make lasting memories.

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership role within our Venue Management team, supporting the delivery of our bars, café spaces and events programme.

You’ll work closely with the Venues General Manager to lead day-to-day operations, supervise a large team of student staff, and ensure our venues are safe, welcoming and delivering a high-quality experience.

This role is ideal for:

Supervisors ready to step into a management role
Graduates building a career in hospitality or events
Former Union Team Members progressing into full-time work

What the job is really like

Our venues are busy, varied environments - so it’s important to understand what the role involves:

A fast-paced, high-pressure environment, particularly during peak periods
A mix of daytime operations and late-night shifts
Leading teams in live, customer-facing situations
Making decisions quickly to keep operations running smoothly
Balancing customer experience, compliance and commercial performance

No two days are the same - and you’ll need to be confident, adaptable and ready to lead from the front.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience in a hospitality or customer-facing role (ideally high-volume)
Has experience supervising or supporting a team
Is confident working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Communicates clearly and works well with a range of people
Is organised and able to manage competing priorities
Uses initiative and makes sound decisions in an operational setting
Has a working knowledge of key regulations (e.g. H&S, licensing)
Can work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
