Full job description

We are looking for an ambitious, passionate, and driven Chef to join our team. We are a free hold country pub with a high-level finish of décor, The Ship inn has a deep-rooted reputation for the highest quality pub food and changing specials board to show case artistic flair with a heavy emphasis of fresh fish .

We have had ownership of The Ship Inn for 12 years and have completely renovated the building, designed, and projected managed ourselves. With our passion and drive to create an environment and kitchen from the heart.

We own and operate commercial fishing boats to ensure we only have the very best fresh seafood, we also work with other local commercial fisherman to give a good variety of fresh produce. We have added an ice display counter and live lobster tank to our premises to offer the addition of an off scales option for guests on holiday to purchase fresh seafood etc. to cook at home. We feel this an excellent opportunity for you to showcase the wonderful freshly caught produce we can offer our customers directly.

We are at the heart of one of Gower’s most beautiful villages and are heavily seasonal. During the summer months we are a busy establishment and are looking for a chef to immerse themselves in this opportunity. With a fresh outlook this year we estimate that our year-round sales will increase, and our appeal will be paramount for those desiring the highest quality product ethically sourced. We would love a chef with a genuine passion for Gower and everything it produces from local farms to foraging, the wild and wonderful products nature gifts us.

You will intergrate into our kitchen team to ensure that our food maintains the highest quality. We hope that you will bring passion in using local produce, in a form that is exciting, fun and inventive. We are looking for the right person to add to our team and to our business going forward. A tremendous opportunity, to work with the best greatest products nature has to offer. This is a unqiue position, in a an incredible location.

Chef duties and responsibilities

Design menus that enhance customers’ culinary experience while keeping up high quality.
Submit cost proposals for menu items.
Provide feedback regarding the food quality of large bulk purchases.
Ensure that all food preparation is in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Monitor inventory levels of commonly used items.
Look for ways to reduce spoilage of infrequently used items.
Train, and mange staff about proper kitchen sanitization methods.

Chef requirements

Previous experience in a similar role.
Ability to track expenses and manage a budget.
Ability to lead and inspire a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Please note that due to our location your own transport is essential.

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Pay: £30,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
