Full job description

Job Summary

We’re looking for a hands-on, dynamic Yard Supervisor to take charge of daily operations in our outdoor storage and logistics yard. This role involves rolling up your sleeves to work on used shipping containers, doing a bit of joinery, basic plumbing, and ideally experience in shipping container upcycling is advantageous. You’ll coordinate material handling, manage the team, and keep shipping and receiving running smoothly. Your leadership will ensure the yard stays safe, organized, and productive, while driving ongoing improvements. It’s a great chance to put your logistics know-how, mechanical skills, and team management experience to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Supervise daily yard activities, including materials handling, shipping, receiving, and inventory management
Coordinate the movement of goods using forklifts and other equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times
Lead and motivate a team of yard personnel, providing training on safety procedures, equipment operation, and process improvements
Manage logistics operations related to third-party logistics (3PL) providers to optimize delivery schedules and service levels
Conduct regular inspections of the yard for safety hazards, mechanical issues, or process inefficiencies; implement corrective actions as needed
Collaborate with warehouse staff to streamline shipping & receiving workflows and improve overall operational efficiency

Skills

Strong materials handling skills with experience operating forklifts safely and efficiently
Proven ability to manage logistics operations within a warehouse or outdoor yard environment
Excellent team management skills with the ability to train, motivate, and lead diverse personnel
Mechanical knowledge related to yard equipment maintenance and troubleshooting heavy machinery
Experience with process improvement initiatives to enhance operational workflows
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced setting
