About the Job

Apollo Hotel Birmingham is a well-established, independent 126-bedroom hotel near Birmingham City Centre.

We are looking for a reliable and hard-working Hotel Porter to help our Housekeeping team and other hotel departments.

This is an active, physical job. You will spend much of the day walking, lifting, carrying, cleaning and moving items around the hotel.

You must be happy to do different jobs during the day and help wherever needed.

What You Will Do

Your main duties will include:

Take clean bed linen and towels to the linen cupboards on each floor.
Keep all linen cupboards clean, tidy and fully stocked.
Collect used linen and move it to the correct collection area.
Help receive, count and put away linen deliveries.
Move linen bags, supplies and other hotel items safely.
Clean the hotel car park and outside areas.
Pick up litter and keep entrances and paths clean and tidy.
Clean corridors, stairways, lifts and other common areas.
Clean public toilets and other public areas when required.
Vacuum, mop, sweep and carry out general cleaning.
Move beds, mattresses, tables, chairs and other furniture when required.
Help Housekeeping staff with heavy items and room set-ups.
Help move furniture when rooms need deep cleaning or maintenance.
Help set up and clear conference, meeting and function rooms.
Move tables, chairs and equipment for events.
Help guests with luggage when required.
Keep stores, linen rooms and work areas clean and organised.
Help unload and move hotel deliveries when required.
Report any damage, maintenance problems or safety hazards that you notice.
Follow Health & Safety rules and use cleaning chemicals safely.
Help other hotel departments when reasonably required.
Help guests with luggage when required, including carrying luggage safely to and from guest rooms.
Politely assist guests with simple questions, directions and hotel information when required.
Empty bins and dispose of waste correctly in line with hotel procedures.
Keep the hotel entrance, lobby and other guest-facing areas clean, tidy and presentable throughout the shift.
Report maintenance problems, damage, spillages, hazards or guest requests promptly to the correct department.

What We Are Looking For

You should be:

Physically fit and able to do a manual job.
Able to lift and move linen bags, beds, mattresses, furniture and other heavy items safely.
Hard-working and willing to help.
Reliable and punctual.
Able to follow instructions.
Happy to work as part of a team.
Able to keep areas clean and tidy.
Polite and helpful when dealing with guests.
Willing to work on any day of the week, including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Previous hotel, housekeeping, cleaning, porter or similar experience is helpful, but the right attitude, reliability and willingness to work are very important.
