Kitchen Assistant – EatSocial Sandwich Shop
Location: Norwich
Salary: £13.45ph (Based on the 2026 UK National Living Wage benchmarks)
Role Overview
We are seeking a friendly and reliable, hands-on Kitchen Assistant to help manage daily kitchen operations at our city centre Sandwich Shop. You will be required to take charge of the kitchen environment while focusing on fresh food preparation, specifically assembling high-quality sandwiches and salads, contribute to menu development, and maintain strict food hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Food Prep: Wash, slice, and prep fresh ingredients daily. Build and present a variety of deli-style sandwiches, fresh salads, and snacks, according to our recipes and processes for daily sale. Keep the counter stocked up, and prepare food to order as required throughout the shift.
Kitchen Management: Take ownership of the kitchen workspace, ensuring all areas are organised, and stock is ready and available to produce the daily menus.
Stock & Storage: Receive deliveries, unload and put away supplies, organise the store cupboard, fridge & freezer, rotating stock to check expiry dates, and minimise food waste.
Cleanliness & Hygiene: Maintain high levels of cleanliness (includes cleaning all areas regularly, sweeping, mopping, taking out bins etc). Ensure all dishwashing is kept up to date, and accessories are clean and ready to use. Complete weekly and monthly cleaning tasks.
Compliance: Adhere to all Health and Safety and food safety regulations. Complete and record daily, weekly and monthly checks.
Requirements
· Must be available to work Saturdays.
· Previous experience in a kitchen, café, or food service environment is desirable, but not essential as full ongoing training will be provided.
· Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. You will be required to open and close the shop, taking responsibility for securing the premises.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure, and remain resilient during busy or challenging times.
· A willingness to communicate and discuss ideas in a friendly manner, and contribute to the future success of the business and its social mission.
· Work closely with the owner/manager and directors, to create a friendly, open, inclusive and productive working environment for everyone.
· High attention to detail, able to follow strict processes, and the ability to keep a clean, safe workspace.
· A proactive and committed approach, with a willingness to go the extra mile to support the success of the business and the aims of our mission.
This role is for 30 hours spread over 4 days, including Saturdays. Lunch and drinks are provided.
We’re looking for someone who is keen to commit to the role, grow with the business, and work towards taking on a managerial position in the future.

At EatSocial our mission is to nourish families in Norwich by providing welcoming community meals that reduce isolation, build meaningful connections and offer support in times of need. Through our projects, we aim to foster community, compassion, and opportunities which break the cycle of poverty, and help families move towards a more secure, hopeful future.
The Sandwich Shop has been set up as one of 3 income streams to fund our mission, along with grant funding and fundraising campaigns. All profits from the sandwich shop will be used to fund our community meal projects.
