Full job description

Job Title: Service Manager – Children’s Residential Home

Location: Rosyton

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Additional Requirements: Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required

Participate in on-call duties

Role Purpose

The Service Manager is responsible for the effective leadership, management, and development of a children’s residential home, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care in line with legislation, regulations, and best practice. The role focuses on safeguarding, compliance, staff management, and positive outcomes for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

Provide strong, effective leadership to the staff team, promoting a positive and supportive working culture
Manage, supervise, and support staff through regular supervision, appraisals, and training
Ensure appropriate staffing levels, rota management, and staff development
Lead by example and promote best practice in children’s care

Care & Safeguarding

Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care that meets the emotional, physical, and developmental needs of children and young people
Promote safeguarding and ensure all safeguarding concerns are acted upon promptly and appropriately
Ensure children’s care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies are implemented and regularly reviewed
Promote children’s rights, independence, and positive outcomes

Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure the home complies with all relevant legislation, including the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
Prepare for and manage Ofsted inspections, ensuring the home meets or exceeds regulatory standards
Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
Monitor quality of care and implement continuous improvements

Operational & Administrative Duties

Manage the day-to-day operations of the home
Oversee incident reporting, complaints, and investigations
Work in partnership with families, social workers, education providers, and other professionals
Manage budgets and resources effectively

Working Hours & Flexibility

Work Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Be flexible to work evenings and weekends when required to meet service needs

Person Specification

Essential

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)
Significant experience working in a children’s residential care setting
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation
Proven leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making abilities
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends

· Be able to undertake a full DBSD check

Desirable

Experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager
Experience managing Ofsted inspections
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and therapeutic approaches
