Sales Development Lead
£27,000 + uncapped commission | Flexible hybrid working | Quedgeley, Gloucester | Full time | Immediate start available
This is not a typical sales role
iMaintain is an early stage technology company building maintenance intelligence software for the manufacturing industry.
We are a small, ambitious team at an important stage of our growth. Between now and the end of 2026, we have significant commercial targets to hit as we grow revenue, prove our model and raise our Seed round.
That means this role will not suit everyone.
The pace is fast. Expectations are high. Priorities can change quickly. You will receive direct feedback. There will be problems without an obvious answer and, because we are a small team, your individual contribution genuinely matters.
In return, you will have the opportunity to join a startup at an early stage, work directly with the founders, have a visible impact on company growth and develop your role significantly as the business grows.
We reward output, initiative, ownership and people who want to continuously improve.
The role
We are looking for a hands on Sales Development Lead to take ownership of outbound sales and pipeline generation at iMaintain.
This is not a people management position. You will be doing the selling yourself: prospecting, picking up the phone, following up opportunities, booking meetings and helping move prospects through our sales process.
However, we want someone with the potential to become much more than a traditional SDR.
As you prove yourself, there will be opportunities to take greater ownership of sales strategy, forecasting, pipeline analysis, processes and wider commercial growth.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Calling new business prospects and following up inbound leads
- Prospecting through LinkedIn, Apollo and other relevant channels
- Creating and managing email and LinkedIn outreach
- Generating your own sales opportunities rather than relying solely on inbound leads
- Qualifying prospects and identifying genuine commercial opportunities
- Booking discovery calls, product demos and follow up meetings
- Progressing marketing qualified leads into sales opportunities
- Attending discovery calls, demos and follow up meetings alongside the founders
- Supporting opportunities through the sales process
- Maintaining accurate HubSpot records, activities and opportunity stages
- Keeping prospects moving through consistent and disciplined follow up
- Identifying common objections, customer feedback and messaging that resonates
- Developing a strong understanding of our target market, customer problems and product
- Taking ownership of your activity, pipeline and results
There is room for much more
We are deliberately hiring for the core sales development function first, but we would love to find someone capable of growing beyond it.
For the right person, there will be opportunities to become involved in:
- Sales strategy and planning
- Pipeline analysis and forecasting
- Sales reporting and KPIs
- Improving our outbound approach and sales processes
- Identifying new target markets and opportunities
- Developing messaging and sales collateral alongside marketing
- Supporting wider commercial decision making
- Taking increasing ownership of the sales function as iMaintain grows
You do not need to be able to do all of this on day one.
Someone who demonstrates the ability and ambition to grow into these areas will have a significant advantage.
Who we are looking for
Experience matters, but mindset matters just as much.
You will probably thrive here if you:
- Have previous B2B sales experience, particularly outbound sales
- Are comfortable picking up the phone and creating opportunities from scratch
- Are motivated by targets, results and winning new business
- Have a strong work ethic and high level of personal accountability
- Take constructive feedback well and demonstrate that you have acted on it
- Can think independently rather than waiting to be given every answer
- Approach problems by identifying potential solutions and presenting options
- Have strong follow up discipline and do what you say you are going to do
- Are comfortable being held accountable for your results
- Can operate effectively when priorities change quickly
- Are commercially curious and want to understand why something works rather than simply following a script
- Are organised and able to manage multiple prospects and opportunities
- Want responsibility, progression and the opportunity to help build something
- Are comfortable working in a small team where everyone is expected to contribute
Previous experience working in a startup or small high growth business would be a significant advantage.
Experience selling B2B SaaS, technology or into manufacturing and engineering organisations would also be beneficial.
If your experience has only been within large, highly structured corporate environments, this does not rule you out. However, you should be aware that working within an early stage startup is very different. There are fewer layers, less hand holding and significantly greater individual ownership.
How we work
We are an agile team and expect people to communicate openly, challenge ideas constructively and respond positively when something needs to improve.
Nobody gets everything right. What matters is how quickly you learn, adapt and improve.
We care about meaningful output, not looking busy.
You will work directly with our founders and closely with marketing, product and the wider team rather than sitting within a large established sales department.
Some processes are already established. Others are still being built. If you see a better way of doing something, we want you to say so.
Salary and commission
Base salary: £27,000 per year
Our commission scheme is uncapped:
£20 for every qualified demo attended
Plus 25% of the first month's revenue from every new customer secured
There is no commission ceiling. If you perform, we want you to benefit from the value you create.
Progression and share options
We want someone who sees this as an opportunity to grow alongside the company.
As iMaintain grows, the scope of this position can grow with it. Someone who demonstrates strong sales performance, commercial judgement and leadership potential could take increasing ownership of the sales function.
For an exceptional person who proves themselves and becomes an important part of the company's growth, participation in a future share option scheme may also be considered following successful completion of probation.
Any share options would be discretionary and subject to the company's scheme rules and formal approval.
Location and working pattern
Our office is based in Quedgeley, Gloucester, with public transport connections by bus and rail.
We offer flexible working hours and a combination of office and remote working.
We value working together in person, particularly as a small team, so this is not a fully remote position.
Before you apply
We want to be transparent about what you are applying for.
This will not always be an easy job.
We are an early stage company with ambitious targets, limited resources and a lot to prove. There will be pressure, challenges and occasions where you need to work something out rather than being handed a process to follow.
We also have high expectations of each other.
If you want a predictable position where every process is established, responsibilities rarely change and success means simply completing the tasks assigned to you, this probably is not the right environment.
If you want a challenge, enjoy sales, want to be measured on your output, learn quickly, work directly with founders and have the opportunity to grow your responsibility as a company grows, we would like to hear from you.
We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible and can accommodate an immediate start.
About iMaintain and what you will be selling
iMaintain is building maintenance intelligence software for manufacturing and asset intensive organisations.
Maintenance teams hold huge amounts of valuable knowledge, but it is often scattered across CMMS platforms, work orders, manuals, spreadsheets, asset histories and experienced engineers' heads. When equipment fails, finding the right information quickly can make the difference between a short stoppage and hours of unnecessary downtime.
iMaintain is designed to change that.
Our technology helps maintenance teams turn their existing maintenance data and engineering knowledge into practical information they can actually use. The aim is to help engineers find answers faster, capture what they learn and reduce downtime.
Our wider product direction is to help manufacturers move from reactive maintenance towards increasingly proactive and preventative maintenance, using the knowledge and data they already generate.
You will therefore be selling into manufacturing organisations and speaking with people such as Maintenance Managers, Engineering Managers, Reliability Engineers, Operations Managers, Plant Managers and senior manufacturing leaders.
This is not about selling technology for the sake of technology.
You will be selling against real operational problems: production downtime, repeat equipment failures, lost engineering knowledge, poor access to maintenance information and maintenance teams spending too much time searching for answers.
You do not need to arrive as a manufacturing or maintenance expert. We will help you build that knowledge.
But you do need to be curious enough to learn the industry, understand the problems our customers face and become confident having credible commercial conversations with manufacturing leaders.
