About AMEL

AMEL (Advancing Mental Health Education and Leadership) is a registered charity dedicated to preserving and protecting mental health for the public benefit, with a particular focus on supporting young people within the Muslim community. The charity works to strengthen early mental health support by equipping youth leaders, volunteers and community organisations with the skills, knowledge and confidence to recognise mental health concerns, respond appropriately, and signpost young people to professional support where needed.

Through research, education, leadership development, community engagement and culturally and religiously informed mental health resources, AMEL seeks to improve awareness, understanding and wellbeing among young Muslims. Working collaboratively with communities, volunteers, professionals and partner organisations, AMEL aims to create safe, supportive environments where young people can thrive and access appropriate support at the earliest opportunity.

Purpose of the Role

The Programme & Operations Manager will provide operational leadership for AMEL and be responsible for driving the charity's vision, strategy and programme delivery. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the postholder will oversee the development and implementation of AMEL's mental health education and leadership programmes, manage partnerships and stakeholder relationships, coordinate research and resource development activities, support fundraising and organisational growth, and ensure the effective day-to-day running of the charity.

The role will play a central part in establishing AMEL as a leading provider of culturally and religiously informed mental health education and support for Muslim youth leaders and communities across the UK.

Strategic Development and Growth

· Lead the implementation of AMEL's strategic and operational plans.

· Develop annual workplans, milestones and delivery objectives.

· Identify opportunities to expand the charity's reach and impact.

· Support trustees in shaping the future direction of the organisation.

· Contribute to the development of new programmes, services and resources.

Programme and Project Leadership

· Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of AMEL's mental health leadership programmes.

· Coordinate the refinement and rollout of AMEL's mental health toolkit and training resources.

· Manage programme timelines, budgets and delivery targets.

· Ensure projects are evidence-based and aligned with identified community needs.

· Monitor programme outcomes and produce impact reports.

Research and Resource Development

· Coordinate research activities that inform programme development.

· Work with subject matter experts and partners to develop culturally and religiously informed educational resources.

· Support the development of online learning materials, training resources and digital content.

· Ensure materials remain current, evidence-informed and relevant to beneficiaries.

Partnerships and Outreach

· Develop relationships with mosques, schools, youth organisations, scout groups, madrassahs and community organisations.

· Build partnerships with relevant professional and voluntary sector organisations.

· Represent AMEL at conferences, networking events and stakeholder meetings.

· Increase awareness of AMEL's work and mission within Muslim communities and beyond.

Fundraising and Organisational Sustainability

· Identify grant funding, sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

· Support preparation of funding applications and reports.

· Assist with developing sustainable income streams, including training and resource-based activities.

· Support engagement with donors, supporters and funding partners.

Governance and Operations

· Support trustees in maintaining effective governance arrangements.

· Ensure compliance with charity, safeguarding and data protection requirements.

· Maintain appropriate policies, procedures and operational systems.

· Prepare reports and updates for trustee meetings.

Staff and Volunteer Leadership

· Line manage operational staff and volunteers.

· Coordinate recruitment, induction and development activities.

· Foster a positive and collaborative working culture.

Person Specification

Essential

· Experience of managing projects, programmes or services.

· Strong organisational and planning skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Experience of building effective partnerships and stakeholder relationships.

· Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

· Experience of supervising staff, volunteers or project teams.

· Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and online collaboration tools.

· Commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes for young people.

· Experience of fundraising, grant management or bid writing.

Desirable

· Experience working within youth development, education, community engagement, mental health or faith-based organisations.

· Knowledge of mental health and wellbeing issues affecting young people.

· Understanding of the needs and experiences of Muslim communities.

· Knowledge of charity governance and compliance requirements.

· Experience of monitoring, evaluation and impact reporting.
