Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Forest School Assistant to support outdoor educational programmes designed to foster children’s development through nature-based activities. The successful candidate will work closely with educators to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children of various ages and abilities, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in outdoor education, special education, and child mentoring within a supportive team.

Duties

Assist in delivering outdoor learning activities that promote exploration, creativity, and environmental awareness.
Support children with diverse needs, ensuring their safety and engagement throughout activities.
Help supervise children during outdoor play, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines at all times.
Facilitate inclusive participation by adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
Foster positive relationships with children through mentoring, tutoring, and providing encouragement.
Collaborate with lead educators to plan and prepare educational resources and materials for outdoor sessions.
Maintain a safe and organised outdoor environment by inspecting equipment and ensuring cleanliness.
Communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members to support programme objectives.

Qualifications

Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is essential.
A strong 'outdoor' ethos is essential and a Forest School qualification would be desirable but is not necessary as training can be given.
Knowledge of teaching techniques, tutoring, and mentoring strategies suitable for outdoor environments.
Strong communication skills to effectively engage children and collaborate with colleagues.
A genuine passion for outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and supporting children's development.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and adapt activities accordingly.
Relevant safeguarding training or willingness to undertake such training prior to employment is essential. This role offers an enriching environment where you can make a meaningful difference in children's lives while developing your skills in outdoor education and special needs support.

We require 2 references, one must be from your current role and if you do not have an up to date enhanced DBS one will be sought before employment commences.
